Re: Problems with Hotmail on Midori

Hotmail via Claws Mail - finally, this guide helped me fix issues with sending email via SMTP. Now it's all working fine.

Claws is a good lightweight choice too for Raspbian.

Re: Problems with Hotmail on Midori

I managed to get Hotmail working with Claws Mail (after a sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install claws-mail ) using Microsoft's instructions for Hotmail access over POP3 and SMTP . If you're trying this, make sure to choose to leave a copy of the messages on the server, or it will delete them a...

Re: Problems with Hotmail on Midori

The problem in my case is that my girlfriend is no longer able to access her Hotmail on the Raspberry Pi I got her for Christmas specifically for the purpose. Looks like I'll be trying a POP3/SMTP-based solution (any recommendations for Raspbian?). At least MS didn't remove that option like Yahoo! M...

Problems with Hotmail on Midori

Since Microsoft have pushed through their updates for their Live platform, including rebranding Hotmail as Outlook, I have noticed that Hotmail/Outlook no longer works with Midori on Raspbian. Midori keeps returning to the login screen after attempting to sign in. This is true also for the mobile ve...

Re: RISC OS Pi port of XAMOS?

Any word on how the performance is compared to the Raspbian build yet? Both are going to be slow in a window. On Raspbian the performance is impacted by the slow X renderer, so it's slow even in fullscreen mode (which the Raspbian build now uses as default). This can be massively improved by using ...

Re: Libre Office

I didn't get LibreOffice from the Pi Store, but I can confirm that Writer and Calc work well as alternatives to MS Word and Excel (other alternatives are AbiWord and Gnumeric). Impress is very slow though on the Pi for trying to create slides (and play them back - see above), however this is likely ...

Re: New to Raspbian and Linux? Start here...

Leafpad is very lightweight and so ideal for beginners to use on the Pi as a text editor, unlike Gedit which runs much slower (but has more advanced features). There are already some tough decisions for which apps beginners should use on the Pi. LibreOffice Writer or Abiword? LibreOffice Calc or Gnu...

Re: RISC OS Pi port of XAMOS?

Update: Chris Gransden has build a test version of XAMOS for RISC OS, compatible with RISC OS Pi. This includes support for the RISC OS filetype system.

You can download it from here, or the project's SourceForge files page.

Re: If it runs Quake..why not SNES?

If these games/emulators are running using SDL on an X window, they will have an extremely bad performance hit on Raspbian. X redraw is horribly slow without GPU support on an ARMv6, and to run an SDL app on this is likely to max out the ARM and leave little room for fullspeed emulation. Check the t...

Re: SDL 1.2 with dispmanx backend

Mequa: Demos are running at 30FPS after removing the FPS adjustment delay you posted. I'm not diving into the code and there could be multiple causes to this, but maybe it's expected after all, isn't it? Not bad for now. Does the framerate drop below 30FPS? On X I get no more than 12FPS. I think Op...

Re: Suck to reset?

Update: I upgraded my Pi's power supply from 1A to 1.2A, and now it can happily power a USB e-cig without resetting. No need to even use a powered hub (although I would still strongly recommend one for this purpose). In my tests, on a 1.2A power supply, the Pi's USB power output can produce smokable...

Re: SDL 1.2 with dispmanx backend

@Mequa: The Raspbian makefile has a missing library route. Thanks for spotting this. Makefile_raspbian has been fixed, and has now been updated in XAMOS.zip and XAMOS_src.zip. *UPDATE* This is available now in the above files. Are there any calculations/waits inside the interpreter code to archieve...

Re: SDL 1.2 with dispmanx backend

You don't need Boost to build XAMOS (it's optional), change the Makefile (based on Linux default) as follows: On the CFLAGS line, remove "-D USEBOOST", and replace with "-Wno-deprecated". Alternatively, something like this will install all Boost libraries (and will take a long time): sudo apt-get in...

Debian sid (unstable) port?

The current Debian build is based on the Debian testing version, "Wheezy". I was wondering if it would be possible to port the most experimental version of Debian, "Sid", to produce a cutting-edge Debian build for the Pi? There are already x86 distros based on Debian Sid, most notably Siduction whic...

Re: SDL 1.2 with dispmanx backend

Great, XAMOS now gives 30fps on the Raspberry Pi with the default "Eater" demo (and a bit slower with the Breakout-like demo). Not quite fullspeed 60fps, but getting there. :) Using OpenGL ES to draw directly (mapping textures to quads) would be faster though, compared with using a SDL soft-renderer...

Re: SDL 1.2 with dispmanx backend

I'm wondering if dispmanx could be used with ScummVM on Raspbian to scale games at resolutions such as 320x200, 640x400 and 640x480 to whatever native screen resolution is used. (Perhaps DOSBox too, but ScummVM definitely performs better!)

Suck to reset?

OK, this is hilarious. I've discovered that if you connect a USB electronic cigarette to one of the Raspberry Pi's USB ports, the Raspberry Pi will reset when said electronic cigarette is drawn upon with enough intensity. No doubt this is caused by the USB device (which only uses the USB for power) ...
