Re: Is Geany on Raspbian? ...

I'm wondering if the Raspberry Pi Foundation would consider pre-loading Geany onto the Raspbian and NOOBS images. It's a much better IDE for Python than IDLE (which is included), is very lightweight, and fits well with the purpose of the RPi. Geany is also recommended for use with Pi3D , for creatin...

Re: Windows 7 Snap on Raspbian LXDE

By default, Opensnap does not support unsnapping windows. If you wish to enable this feature, you can use this patch , as follows: Enter the following in a Terminal window: leafpad ~/.config/openbox/lxde-pi-rc.xml Search for this section (enter "Titlebar" into Search -> Find): <context name="Titleba...

Windows 7 style open Snap on Raspbian LXDE

While Raspbian has a nice UI, one feature it is missing by default is the ability to 'snap' windows to a side or the top of the desktop, as in Microsoft Windows 7 (which historically introduced this UI feature) and above, and some more heavyweight Linux desktop environments. Opensnap is a nice light...

Re: Need Help Changing Epiphany's Default Search Engine.

With this fix, Web / Epiphany will attempt to query the search term from Google. It is somewhat slow though, as it will enter it into the Google homepage search, then bring up search suggestions, requiring pressing enter again (in my testing). At least it does search from Google now, though. To fix...

Mequa, thanks for all the info! Audacity runs well too, and I successfully recorded and played back audio from a USB headset with mic. Re: Pi2 with Raspbian failing to apt-get update or install

I would investigate the router/modem settings, and perhaps contact your ISP's technical support. My gut suspicious are that this could be due to bad router/modem settings, or possibly even something at the ISP's end. Do similar errors occur on other devices, or just the Pi running both Raspbian and ...

Re: A SERIOUS Raspbian issue

LXDE is lightweight on the ARM CPU, and even faster with the included Raspbian UI enhancements . On the Pi 2 with (faster) quad core it really flies, and leaves 3 of the cores for running applications. I also tried XFCE and MATE on Raspbian, but LXDE is quite a bit faster, so I'm sticking with it fo...

Re: RISC OS on Raspberry Pi 2?

Question: Are the Raspberry Pi Foundation preparing an updated NOOBS image containing an installable RISC OS Pi compatible with Raspberry Pi 2 Model B? I'd like to dual-boot RISC OS Pi with Raspbian (and maybe OpenELEC too) on my Raspberry Pi 2 Model B's 32GB microSD card, and get my copy of NutPi w...

Re: Need Help Changing Epiphany's Default Search Engine.

I tried the above hack on Raspbian on my new Raspberry Pi 2 Model B. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work. Re: recompile QEMU for raspberry 2 to use 4 cores

QEMU is emulating a single-core x86 CPU. AFAIK, this emulation cannot run parallel on all 4 ARM cores, so can only use one core. Emulating a single-core CPU using parallel cores is VERY non-trivial to implement. Windows XP is going to be way too slow, the minimum requirements are along the lines of ...

Re: On the Pi2, what's your favorite app running WAY smoothe

Web / Epiphany has to be my favourite now, as it turns the Pi 2 into a capable nettop. Kodi / XBMC now makes a much smoother media centre. OpenArena plays much better now, staying above 25FPS during the action. LibreOffice runs really well now, along with some other office applications , turning the...

Gnome Office usability on Raspberry Pi 2

Having just got the Raspberry Pi 2 B and noticed its increased performance over its predecessor, I am wondering how it can perform as an entry-level office desktop PC. Re: Browse experience in RPI2

Web browsing is fairly good on Raspberry Pi 2 B for a low-end mobile-class device, comparable to a budget tablet. I noticed a few web pages struggle in Web / Epiphany. YouTube will play in Web / Epiphany, but not in HD (it appears to be in 240p) and I also noticed some tearing. Full-screen videos sl...

Re: The Raspberry Pi 2 Q&A thread

Did anyone already try to overclock Rpi2? I would like to know if it's possible to bring it fairly easily to 1200 mhz. It overclocks to a similar level as Pi1. I'd say most (but not all) Pi2's can run at 1000MHz, a minorty at 1100Mhz, and 1200MHz is possible but rare. I've had no problem with overc...

Re: RISC OS on Raspberry Pi 2?

I think you'll find those things are compatible they just aren't exploiting the hardware changes. Attempting to install RISC OS via the latest NOOBS suggests otherwise. It's very early days for the Raspberry Pi 2, though, so they may have made their update to Raspbian (including the NOOBS version) ...

Re: The Raspberry Pi 2 Q&A thread

Can I over clock the new Raspberry Pi 2 model B? Can I overclock it to 1.2ghz or higher? I was wondering this because windows 10 is quite intensive especially on a Raspberry Pi and overclocking would make windows run smoother. I don't have a Pi2 yet, unfortunately. However on the Pi1 after a " sudo...

A bit slow on the Pi, but you can direct Midori to http://www.google.com/pacman - click "Insert Coin". :)

It uses JavaScript. There is a version of Google Pacman somewhere which works offline too.

Re: Problems with Hotmail on Midori

Hotmail works in Chromium 20, in Iceweasel it works but is hindered... Iceweasel is just Mozilla Firefox with different branding. This is much too heavy and slow on Raspbian in my experience, much worse than Chromium which is already unusable much of the time. (The RISC OS version of Firefox is als...
