Re: Anyone successfully connect a large HDD (not SSD) to their rpi? Did you use external power?

Smaller 2.5" laptop drives use 5V only. Larger 3.5"+ drives require both 5V & 12V. Some adapters have only a 12V supply and rely on the USB port for the 5V portion. The adapter I have uses a dual output 12V & 5V power supply from a single 'brick'. I have this: https://www.ebay.com...

Re: Anyone successfully connect a large HDD (not SSD) to their rpi? Did you use external power?

You didn't say how you want to connect the drive to the RPi.......... If your drive is 3.5" or larger then it will require both 12V & 5V external power. I have a 2T drive connected to the RPi with a USB to SATA adapter. The adapter came with an external dual output power supply. Are you sa...

Re: VNC working but not ssh

Is ufw preventing ssh connections maybe?

Code: Select all

sudo ufw status
Is the ssh service still active?

Code: Select all

systemctl status sshd

Anyone successfully connect a large HDD (not SSD) to their rpi? Did you use external power?

I'm talking 1TB at the least.

I do have an external 500gb hitachi that's about a decade old connected to my rpi4-8gb and it works perfectly. If I upgrade my hard drive on my computer, I might attach the extra HDD to the rpi but am wondering about power issues.

Thanks!

Wow. Why didn't I think of that?
Likely you were afraid to think such thoughts.

Re: Advice wanted for /etc/fstab

Best is not to mess with fstab at all. Lots of people have come to lots of rack and ruin this way. I.e., down that path lies madness. Much better to put the mount command in a startup file somewhere - that way, you have more direct control over it - don't have to learn a new arcane syntax (the arca...

Re: Raspberry Pi4 8GB xHPL benchmark results

@ejolson Regardless of how poor my last results were, I agree. And yes, I think this was related to my configuration (no throttling occurred) because my second to last score was ~3Gflops higher. Whats great is that my previous overclock failed one of the HPL tests (although the system was perfectly ...

Re: Raspberry Pi4 8GB xHPL benchmark results

It's working. Thank you so much. I appreciate the patience you have for a n00b. I'll report back my results.

Btw would you say this is a reliable way to test an overclocked rpi? I was looking for a prime95 equivalent for the rpi and someone pointed me to this thread.

Re: Raspberry Pi4 8GB xHPL benchmark results

mpich has no rank file option (that was from in my openmpi trials earlier) so you just need to launch it mpirun -np 4 /opt/hpl/bin/xhpl (or whatever is the path to your xhpl) Okay I'm almost there. I get the following error now: /opt/hpl/bin/xhpl: error while loading shared libraries: libopenblas.s...

prime95 equivalent for Raspberry pi OS?

I've been stressing my rpi8gb with a sysbench script that loops over and over again. #!/bin/bash clear for f in {1..7} do vcgencmd measure_temp sysbench --test=cpu --cpu-max-prime=25000 --num-threads=4 run >/dev/null 2>&1 done vcgencmd measure_temp I've got 4 instances running (though I don't th...
