Are you using it as your / file system, swap or just additional storage?

Re: Repeating Keys (About to Use My Hammer!)

Can you measure the voltage at TP1/TP2? The repeating keys is one symptom of inadequate power.
The problem with the "Power Supplies" you mention: they are battery chargers, not real power supplies.

If you are watching a movie, the drive should not be "idle".

Re: USB ports not working properly

Hello, So I guess the new image is demanding more current, after switching back to 2012-12-16-wheezy-raspbian my system is running properly again (WiFi on RPi ; Keyboard+mouse on USB Hub), despite I have a 2A PS on the RPi. So the new system consumes more than 15W?! For Armel image I have to say th...

1A may not be enough - Pi+kbd/rodent+wifi could easily exceed 1.2A.

Re: USB ports not working properly

If you unplug mouse and keyboard and just plug the keyboard back in, does it work then?
(And just because it might save some time, could you post details about make/model of keyboard, how you are powering the Pi, overclocking etc?)

Re: HDMI not working on TV after hotswap

I have 1 HDMI cable that only works 1 way (I've seen a couple of others report the same thing) Try reversing the cable! Don't know why it worked. 2 other (longer) cables work fine either way.

Unplug both and plug keyboard only back in. And provide more details on how you are powering the Pi,
model/rev of the Pi, keyboard, etc.

Re: Temperature spiking to 85 degrees Celsius

OK - I've never seen the temp outside the "expected" range and I've never had the "Pi locks up/hangs/crashes..." problem, so it didn't seem unreasonable to explore this further. Since it's a known issue, I think we can probably forget about that one... Taking the readings and rejecting "absurd" valu...

Re: Temperature spiking to 85 degrees Celsius

I could be barking up the wrong tree, but this sounds suspicious. Could this be the problem behind some of the "Pi hangs after a few minutes"? In real life, we would not expect the Pi to come anywhere close to 85' (45' - 55' seems to be the range I've seen on my 3 overclocked pi's). So, if the kerne...

Re: USB drive.. get input/output errors after inactivity

Anything on the screen? I suspect the drive is spinning down due to inactivity and disconnecting. Now the question is did the drive spin down because it decided it was time or because the kernel told it to, or what.... Are you certain there is enough power for the drive? You should not need a hub if...

Re: Use USB as Pi hard drive.

Actually, he used a 64Gb SSD, but HDD with a USB adaptor works OK, as well. Note that some HDD's require in excess of 500mA, so you will probably want to think about powering it through a hub, own supply, Y cable, etc.) Some USB adaptors (Cypress and possibly others) are not recognized with the stoc...

Re: USB OK - Network Problems - No Connection

Hang on - All 3 Ethernet LED's are flashing? Something not right with that - it shouldn't be toggling between 10 and 100Mbps. Flip the board over and examine the connector soldering carefully. See if there is a pin loose, solder bridge or anything that looks amiss. While you are there, give X1 a goo...

Yup - I have rigged mine up that way (I also put a cap or 2 across the power supply to at least lessen power sags when "hot plugging" various things) Seems to work well.

Re: Can't boot with /dev/sda!

Well, welcome to the whacky, weird world of the Pi ;-) Does the drive have separate power and USB connections? Or does it get power on the USB connector? If it's all on the USB connector you may need a Y cable (Or if you can, make it yourself) Feed the drive from a separate power supply if possible,...

Re: Can't boot with /dev/sda!

The Generic USB mass storage driver is built-in so no initrd should be needed for that drive. So, what I would do to see if it is even going to try is to change /boot/cmdline.txt to point at root=/dev/sda2 rootwait and see what happens. If it takes off, you're good to go (assuming you have put a val...

Can you hear the drive spinning up/heads settling within the 10 seconds (or whatever value you chose)? 10 seconds should be enough - I'm pretty certain even my Microdrive will spin up in that amount of time. I don't see any modules listed for the drive in the 'lsmod'...

Re: Random Freezing with odd solution

I had a similar problem with a Pi installed (pretty well sealed) in a metal box. The SoC never got above 58' but it would crash/hang/puke. Put a heatsink on it (carefully fitted so its in contact with the inside of the box) and the problem went away. So, I'm guessing that while the SoC might be OK u...
