Re: RISC OS released on Raspberry Pi

RISC OS itself has nothing built in to control the GPIO ports, but I have added Raspberry Pi support to the GPIO module from http://www.tankstage.co.uk/Software . This module will let you control the GPIO ports with a SWI interface. It also detects any MCP23017 GPIO extenders fitted and allows cont...

Re: Ideas for the next Raspberry

Nothing wrong with the hardware! What we need is more complete binary blob with support for panels, CMOS cameras etc etc. If you want to build xbmc-like gizmos there's better hardware available. I for one struggle to use 512 MB memory whilst GPIO tinkering but on the other hand memory is cheap so I'...

Re: RISC OS released on Raspberry Pi

Things are coming together but it's been a while ;) I'm a bit embarrassed to admit but it took me over an hour to shutdown my Raspi with RISC OS... ...the icons were outside the screen  My webserver runs really well and most php stuff does what its supposed to do but I have yet to wire in my se...

Re: 10" Touch Screen for Raspi on route shortly!

Refresh is refresh and the graphical quality is superb! No difference from any other panel I have :) The only issue I still have is ghost events from the N-trig driver. (the mouse pointer jumps around after a while and create random touch events) I have tinkered with a different linux board with hom...

Re: RISC OS released on Raspberry Pi

@wizard Have a look at !Zap and !StrongED editors, !FTPc and !Nettle (terminal) Nettle supports SSH but unfortunately it's not straightforward. For ssh you could try the packages offered by PackMan (NettleSSH, Openssh) but I'm not sure if they've been updated for ARMv6/v7. An up-to-date FTP client ...

Re: RISC OS released on Raspberry Pi

Very stable and solid by looks of things! I'm running overclocked @1000 Mhz without glitches and the only thing I could notice was overscan with icons outside the screen, but that's down to config I guess and I'll address this later today. Have installed a small php web server and will now dig into ...

Re: Big open news!

Hear, hear!!! So a "small" open source-ish SoC board project can impress Monoliths like Broadcom to actually deviate from NDA processes and let us have a butcher at the code! :D Many thanks for this step and this will for sure ensure the future for Raspberry Pi! I'm now warming up my Android build s...

Re: What is the aim of this project and it is really open ?

On the "beta" side of things I think this "project" will always be in beta stage. Arduino for example releases new revisions and versions every now and then. Arduino on the other hand is really Open Source which I have to agree that Raspi is not. I can understand that Broadcoms parts are under NDA b...

Re: 10" Touch Screen for Raspi on route shortly!

I haven't updated this thread as much as I hoped to due to being stuck in a damn wheelchair quite recently but I'm trying really hard to get KDE Plasma Active to run smoothly on my touch screen enabled Pi. I upgraded the Pi to 512MB memory so I could dedicate a bit more to the graphics side and it h...

Re: New to Raspbian and Linux? Start here...

Using vim does come with its hazards... vim will parse the file with regards to codecs etc which can be BAD! One example happened on one of our servers at work that just didn't want to play ball and it was more or less impossible to understand. After replacing this server I discovered that some frie...

I'd really appreciate if everyone is honest about a product and not plugging their own with phony aliases... (Not saying that this is such an example but it'd be a schoolbook classic ;) ) In the end of the day you get what you pay for - no more, no less. I work professionally with Android HW/SW grap...

Re: 3D Printing ... The next big thing?

I'm building a Prusa Mendel right now (pending a few parts) and It's not as expensive as I initially though. If you can live with tedious delivery times (although not as bad as RS :p) you can probably do it for less than 200$ AFAIK. I will obviously power min with a Raspi ;) If someone's interested ...

Re: Raspberry Pi with 512mb RAM in the Wild and Element14...

If this is indeed true, and Yes - I did check to see if I could order one and I could, how did this fly in under the radar? By adding more memory I hope they are not moving away from GPIO tinkering a 'la Arduino and towards "cheapo-xbmc-media-platform-without-need-for-tinkering"... However, due to r...

Re: 10" Touch Screen for Raspi on route shortly!

Ok, I'm having fun with my display and I have now built a portable Pi! Was really miffed about the "touchability" of X so I decided to configure a WM that more suited to touch screens. After a lot of tinkering and looking around I'd installed and configured KDE Plasma Netbook on my Raspberry Pi. Sad...

Great to hear you're up and running!

Removed wifi and mouse pointer stopped jumping around - as expected ;) I don't know what to say more than it does what it's supposed to do! The step-by-step instruction was easy and trouble-free. Add " hdmi_edid_file=1 " in config.txt as the first line and then copy the file edid.dat to the root of ...

Bummer... :/

What's the chip?
Perhaps it's something you can easily source and replace...
