Re: Accessing SSH outside local network

I can reach teh PI inside my LAN on port 2223 but can't reach it if I'm using the external ip addres when I'm connected to my office VPN (simulating a situation outside the LAN). So is there a parameter somewhere blocking incomming traffic ? Do I have to configure another service? Sounds like you o...

Re: Raspberry Pi - Sunrise/Sunset Timer for Christmas Light

I actually thought of using a Raspberry Pi as a Synchronized Xmas light controller.... I'm glad they didn't use the name Lychee. Just the smell of those things makes me gag/barph ! I have a client that uses fruit names for hostnames.... Just set up a new VPS server for them and had to find an unused fruit name and Lychee was it. Never seen one in person so I have no idea what they sm...

Re: Can't login cause shutdown command

I access my RPi via ssh only.... Best description I've seen of Shutdown is: Shutdown allows for a time factor and a warning message to other users on the system. Halt is LIGHTS OUT with no warning. Since I am normally the only one on the RPI, I just use either halt or reboot to do those functions. I...

Re: Steady RED light after few minutes

The Red LED is a PWR light. It should not be blinking. The Red LED should go on when you plug power into the unit and go off when you remove power. As long as it has power it should be on even if you have shutdown the Linux OS that is running on the unit. Even then, the Red LED stays lit. From the t...

Re: Stock at MCM Electronics

I was just over there at the mcmelectronics site and they now say that the backorder is until April 17. If they are just not stocking the item, then stop pretending. They've said (at least) that they'd have these in by Nov 21, by Dec 7 and now Apr 17. It's just crazy! They are being more than conse...

Thought I'd check after I had posted that... I bought 5 of them for $6ea the other day... Use Prime shipping they were there the next day even though I used the "Free" 2 day shipping. One of the perks of being in Phoenix with one of the big Amazon warehouses nearby. You can get somethings the same d...

Re: Newbie buying Pi - question about disk partition

I would be greatly tempted to not buy a preloaded SDcard however... Chances are whatever distro you are getting will be out of date by the time you get it and you will be upgrading the OS anyway. It is relatively easy to download the images and write them to the SDcard yourself and you will have tha...

Yes. I have the mail server setup done. And I put your two lines in to a shell script and executed it and it worked well. Now, same way I setup another script, Resultping=`ping -c 1 <hostname> | grep "64 bytes from <hostname>"` echo $Resultping | mailx -s $Resultping [email protected].com The mail comm...

Hello, How do I send an email with its subject as output of a command? For eg. I want to send wget -q -O - checkip.dyndns.org|sed -e 's/.*Current IP Address: //' -e 's/<.*$//' output as Subject of the email and send to [email protected].com. Thanks, Simon Mandy You don't say if you have a mail server s...

Re: SSH and webserver over Internet. Is my setup vulnearable

What I am trying to fix here is, when I try to launch my website (which is hosted on my pi) from my LAN, I see my router's login page. From outside my LAN, it work well. Again... the easiest solution for that is a simple hosts file entry. You point it to the IP of the pi. when you use your web brow...

proftpd.... haven't tried it on a Raspberry Pi yet but use it on a lot of different Unixen... Could have made it a micro SD though - wouldnt stick out so much. Looks like the board is blowing a raspberry - at all of us. Cost. Fully sized SDcards are cheap all over. Availability. Same with Full Sized SDcards... Easy to obtain just about anywhere. Size. Imagine in a school environment. Very s...
