Re: Relay not sending current to NO port

I've burned up a few Pis to date. Some related to learning more about circuit designs and some due to carelessness. The ones you lose to carelessness seems to sting a little more :-)

Re: Relay not sending current to NO port

Pi4J does support the MCP23008 & MCP23017 GPIO expander chips. (As well as the MCP23S17 chip if you prefer to use SPI over I2C) Its super easy with the Pi4J interface. Outside of physically wiring the chip up to the Pi and getting the I2C configured, you don't have to do the raw I2C communication wo...

I guess my comment was related to an earlier version of the JDK where only headless was supported. I removed my earlier post to avoid misinformation to future readers.

Re: Netbeans and pi4j importing

Hi Graham, Are you attempting to run/execute your Java program on the host computer? (Windows) If so .. well, then that won't work. Pi4J will only resolve it's runtime native library dependency when running directly on the Pi. It really does not matter if the host computer is Windows, OSX, or Linux ...

Re: Turn on/off LED issue

I had totally forgotten that I have already added support (in Pi4J) for the Broadcom pin numbering scheme in the unreleased Pi4J-1.1-SNAPSHOT builds. I have updated my last post to include this case and included a link to an example Java program. So if you really hate the WiringPi/Pi4J pin numbering...

Re: Turn on/off LED issue

The pin numbering in Pi4J is based on the original pin numbering used by WiringPi, the underlying native C library that Pi4J is based on. The idea at that time was to provide an abstracted pin numbering scheme to insulate users from pin changes across board revisions where physical GPIO pins can ( a...

Re: How can Java control GPIOs?

Yes Pi4J is using WiringPi and sysfs for determining GPIO pin change events. However, all this is happening at the native C layer and each pin being monitored gets its own monitoring thread. So it is much more efficient because all this work is pushed to the native layer and Pi4J/Java (via JNI) is o...
