Re: I2C bus - anyone planning to use it?

I would love to have I2C Java interface in the Pi4J project. @rotok, please contact me if you would like to join the project and commit. It may be nice to avoid the JNA dependency if possible and move whatever logic is necessary into the existing JNI layer. Pi4J already includes a native library wit...

Re: Pi4J - A Java library to interface with the Raspberry Pi

The API is fine though it took me a bit to find out which class to do certain actions on but just finishing the documentation would help a lot. Documentation is definitely still a work in progress. I have posted an updated version, please note the most notable change to the API is that I changed th...

Re: Pi4J - A Java library to interface with the Raspberry Pi

Do I need any special kernels to support gpio interrupts as I'd like to setup these next to replace my input button monitoring loops. With the latest SFP image: 2012-08-08-wheezy-armel.zip available on the http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads page, no special kernel changes are needed :-) It just w...

Re: Java experiences?

I have been using the Oracle JVM and it seems to have reasonable performance as long as you don't need a headful solution. The Oracle JVM does not support the hardware floating point Raspbian builds, so you have to use the Soft-float Debian “wheezy” builds. Hopefully Oracle will release its JVM with...

Re: Supply 5V power via GPIO pin?

I finally received my extra Raspberry Pi in the mail, so now that I have a backup unit I felt a little more daring and I went ahead tried powering the Pi by providing 5VDC to PIN 2 on the 26P header. Success! More details here: http://www.savagehomeautomation.com/projects/raspberry-pi-powe...

Re: Supply 5V power via GPIO pin?

I was thinking about using the Pi in a larger project that already has a 12v power source. So if I can just use a 5v regulator and maybe include a fusable link it was hoping that this would work. Thanks for the responses!

Re: Installing JDK 7u6 on Raspian soft-float ABI

apt-get intall openjdk-7-jdk This apt-get command will install the Open JDK, not the Oracle JRE. This is perfectly fine for simple Java programs, but its performance is pretty limited and the Oracle JRE runs about twice as fast when compared against the Open JDK using the cacao VM option. See chris...
