Re: Raspberry PI expansion board?

Gertboard is probably the most advanced add-on board available. However, I ordered one in October from Newark and am still waiting for it to arrive  There are a number of alternatives including a series of boards that John Jay is developing and available on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/sch/9030pl...

I totally agree!
+1 for Java sub-category.

I put in a forum request a while back, but the thread did not get any traction.

Maybe if the Java Pi community can voice their opinion we can get some attention

The mentioned google code page for rpi-gpio-java gives me a 404 error. Does this project exist now at a different place, or is the Pi4J now the lib to use? Thanks, Michael That google page (rpi-gpio-java) has been down for a couple of months now. I guess the author/developer decided to take down th...

John Jay's 8 LED / 8 BUTTON breakout board

Having a little GPIO development board is extremely handy when building I/O projects for the Raspberry Pi. In a previous article on my blog, I demonstrated how to build your own testing/development board from scratch: http://www.savagehomeautomation.com/projects/raspberry-pi-build-a-gpio-testing-boa...

I will also have a look the blink() method you linked me to Robert as it seems to be ideal, am I right in saying pi4j is your creation? Re: pi4j simple for loop

Rather than using pulse triggers, you maybe better off to just create a simple listener on the button or use a callback trigger instead. Then in the listener or callback method just add the code to pulse the LED 4 times. Using the 4 pulse triggers, I don't think they will work sequentially. The puls...

Re: Pi4J - A Java library to interface with the Raspberry Pi

Thanks for the fast answer. I have done this steps already. And so i get the minicom example from http://www.irrational.net/2012/04/19/using-the-raspberry-pis-serial-port/ at the end of page to work. I think if the disable console settings should not work, the minicom example should not work, too. ...

Re: Raspberry Pi - Sunrise/Sunset Timer for Christmas Light

I have a home automation/alarm system running now on the Pi. It uses the serial port on the GPIO pins. I have had a lot of problems with USB to Serial adapters on normal Linux systems, so I didn't want to go that route on the Pi. I haven't written up my blog post on the X10 interface yet, but you c...

Not exactly ... although that would be a pretty simple implementation of Java code consuming the Pi4J library. A GpioProvider is intended to provide general ...

Hi Robert - as a Java developer I'm very interested in using your library as my gateway to get started with the Pi. Re: pi4j momentary switch?

In the Pi4J example, it uses the +3.3V pin connected to any momentary switch and then also connects to one of the GPIO pins. The software uses the internal pull-down resistor supported on the hardware to prevent "floating" So it looks to me like you could use your push button switch just connected w...

Yepp, that was it! I needed to edit the file /etc/default/tomcat7 and change the JAVA_HOME variable in it. Until now this line was commented, but I guess it did not matter because I only had one version of Java installed on the Pi (1.6.0_24). But now, that I've installed 1.7.0_07 too, I needed to e...
