Re: YouTube on Raspberry Pi 4 Choppy!!

This problem is known and software support for the Pi 4 is early. Give it a few months and it should become usable ;)

Re: Which SSD to buy for raspberry pi?

Wearing is not my worry. Hmm, if they put 4 bit per cell, that means that each cell stores 16 analog voltage levels per cell, how long will it last, until a drift occurs? I will not bet for many years... I don't think SSDs are good backup drives in the first place ;) But if you use them regularly t...

Re: [solved] RPi 4 unable to connect to WiFi

What do you use to power the Pi? Resolution should not matter.

Re: SSH speed limit?

Quite a lot faster. Found this by a quick search: https://discourse.osmc.tv/t/support-for-armv8-cryptography-extensions-on-vero4k/35358/5 Notice how AES got a big boost in performance. SHA1 not much difference but SHA256 benefits aswell. Would be nice if the Pi 5 or 6 has this enabled. edit: Of cour...

Re: SSH speed limit?

There is no hardware acceleration. At least that's what Linux can tell ("cat /proc/cpuinfo"). With everything beeing encrypted these days hardware AES would have been nice because it reduces CPU load by a lot compared to software AES. I dunno by how much enabling the ARMv8 crypto extensions would ha...

Re: Which SSD to buy for raspberry pi?

Beside that, I sill have more confidence in magnetic storage than on multi-level NANDs for the long term. Old post but i guarantee you you won't break one of them within 5 years. The health of SSDs depends on how much data you have written. If you don't write 20 or more GiB average per day they wil...

Re: [solved] RPi 4 unable to connect to WiFi

You need to give us more infos to be able to help you. It sounds like low signal strength if it works sometimes. While testing with the hotspot i noticed the connection dropped once but that was about it. The connection to the router seems rock solid. The recommect i can probably blame on too many 2...

Re: RPi 4 unable to connect to WiFi

Well, i hit the jackpot. After some thinking i remembered i a router setting i had done months ago and sure enough it was exactly that. The router has an option to only allow known devices to connect which is just another name for MAC filter. The Pi was of course not in the list. I started from scra...

Re: RPi 4 unable to connect to WiFi

Try changing the WPA key to the same one that worked for the hotspot you created. I tried it the other way around mimicking the original network (SSID with ! in the name and the exact same password) and that's working with the hotspot but was not working with the router. I will try changing the pas...

Re: 4gb - 4B Demand must be high.

I don't think anyone has said that the Pi4B4 is "unnecessary", only that it's not needed for *every* use case. The debate really comes down to the degree to which one might expect people (in general) to know when 4GB is needed and when it is not. I have a use for several Pis for which I'm consideri...

There is no log file in /var/log for wpa supplicant. dmesg is totally quiet on connection attempts.

Re: RPi 4 unable to connect to WiFi

Created a hotspot on my Linux Notebook using the 2.4 GHz dongle and its internal WiFi and that works with both open and WPA2-PSK. "ping -c3 google.de" goes through without any packet loss. Can't wrap my head around why it can't connect to the router then

Re: RPi 4 unable to connect to WiFi

Removed the "!" from the SSID and still no luck. Also i remember now i tried to connect to the open one for shits and giggles. That's probably why it appeared in the config. Now it's updating the config with the old network name (with !) instead of the open network. Disabling security is a no-no in ...

Re: 4gb - 4B Demand must be high.

Why i bought the 4 GB model: It's advertised as desktop computer and what comes to mind first running on one? A browser! Chromium/Firefox already take 1-2 GiB alone when you visit a few big and bloaty sites. This is in part due to them spawning new processes for every single tab or Add-on to enforce...

RPi 4 unable to connect to WiFi [solved]

So, yesterday i got my Pi 4 4 GB. Everything seems to work except for WiFi. My setup: Raspberry Pi 4 4GB Official USB-C power supply. Heatsink enclosure (open at antenna location). Legit 64GB SanDisk Ultra microSDXC card (A1) fully tested (including overwrite) with f3 . 1080p 60 Hertz LCD monitor co...
