Re: vc4-fkms-v3d (Pi4 Graphics)

Thanks for your reply. Have tried Ubuntu 18.04 and 19.04 - both cannot work with VC4 based on the current state of the kernel that a few different people have built up. Is Mesa a software package - or a kernel module? Presumably it's something that needs updating in Ubuntu or an incompatibility of s...

Re: vc4-fkms-v3d (Pi4 Graphics)

We've been trying to interchange 64-bit kernels based on the Pi4 that work fine in Raspbian (32-bit userland) and Gentoo (64-bit userland) - but when replacing the Ubuntu kernel for Ubuntu 64-bit the display becomes like a black screen with a white mouse cursor - or can look very messed up instead. ...

vc4-fkms-v3d (Pi4 Graphics)

Does anyone know why this graphics option in config.txt works for some distros but results in a black screen or messed up display in others?

Is there an alternative to specifying the following in config.txt:
dtoverlay=vc4-fkms-v3d

?

Re: 64-bit weekly kernel autobuilds for RPi4 released (bcm2711_defconfig)

Raspex failed.

Ubuntu 18.04 upgraded to 19.04 - but the KVM would no longer initialize display. Turning VC4 back on resulted in a messed up display instead of the usual black screen and white mouse cursor.

Will try Gentoo next.

Re: 64-bit weekly kernel autobuilds for RPi4 released (bcm2711_defconfig)

I don't think Ubuntu 19.04 and 19.10 are working with these kernels - just a black screen after the rainbow screen. Somebody created an Ubuntu docker image builder especially for Ubuntu 19.10 - but without knowing his environment I don't think it's possible to use?

You have to disable the vc4 in the config file - but then that turns off graphics acceleration

Re: Docker Raspberry Pi 4B ARM64 Ubuntu Image Builder

Had quite a lot of errors and reports of missing packages when I got to this step:
docker build -t docker-rpi4-imagebuilder:19.10 -f Dockerfile-ubuntu-19.10 .

Not sure what host Os and perquisites are recommended?

Nah - failed to run VM with KVM acceleration - so needs a 64-bit userland it seems besides the 64-bit kernel.

Securely connecting to the Pi4 remotely using VNC or similar?

Is RealVNC on Raspbian considered secure compared to other VNC solutions? If not then why?

If RealVNC is insecure then how to tunnel it via SSH - or is there another way of getting a visual view of the Pi4 remotely, albeit securely?

Re: 64-bit weekly kernel autobuilds for RPi4 released (bcm2711_defconfig)

Omitting the VC4 seems quite problematic for using KVM with an Ubuntu GUI, so I think it's important to know which distro GUIs can work with VC4 and which cannot. I'm going to try Raspbian next to see if KVM works better on that despite the userland being 32-bit. EDIT: So far QEMU is building ok on ...

Raspbian boots on multiple Pis!

Quite interesting: I built up a Raspbian on a Pi4 to autostart a video in fullscreen and some other stuff. Now when I plugged it into my Pi 3 B+ it worked on there too like it would on a Pi4! Anyway, I've since wiped out the SD card and didn't really have a chance to contemplate that, but thought it...

I don't really understand the concept of this in terms of dockers and server/privileged mode? What has that got to do with making an Ubuntu image for the Raspberry Pi4?

Does the GUI work - or do you get black screen with mouse cursor?

Re: 64-bit weekly kernel autobuilds for RPi4 released (bcm2711_defconfig)

Yeah it worked this time - but initially the kernel files got written to the filesystem boot folder instead of the system boot partition - you might consider going back to piroot and piboot as separate mounts; so I simply extracted FAT partition 1 from the tar.xz file using 7-Zip and it booted!!! :u...

Need first share a folder on windows via the sharing and advanced sharing tabs.

On the pi:
sudo apt-get install samba smbfs
sudo mkdir /media/Data
sudo mount -t cifs -o username=username //x.x.x.x/share /media/Data

that cifs also needs to be installed first

Hi sakaki, thanks for your reply! However, I am currently working on adapting my own 64-bit (kernel + userland) Gentoo image to work with both the Pi4 as well as the Pi3 (indeed that's the main reason for me creating the 64-bit kernel autobuilds, although hopefully they will be useful to others). sakaki, "This will hopefully be addressed upstream shortly" sounds a bit vague; I'm not being funny, but any ideas why Raspbian has 4 GB of RAM but everything else only has 1 GB at the current time? Sounds like a conspiracy theory, so who can provide the most explicit answer? :P Incidentally, how co...

Good work sakaki! Can it tap into the full 4GB of RAM on the 4B model? How could I use the 2nd kernel for Ubuntu Server? https://ubuntu.com/download/server/arm And do you think it would be successful in loading up a GUI contrary to previous attempts?
