Re: Under-voltage warnings

You are confusing voltage and current (amperes) Don't blindly trust the label. The charger says it supplies 2A doesn't mean it supplies 5v while you're drawing 2A. As you draw more current, the voltage can drop and this is why you are seeing an 'undervolt' warning. Also, setting the clock to 1510MH...

Re: Running GUI Program through Something like Putty

If you want to use the "standard" GUI you need to have a display screen to attach to. You certainly can run a headless server and attach a remote screen to it. Lots of options there and putty know how to deal with remote X screens. Another option that many remote devices use is run a small webserver...

Re: How to use RSP in company

The lack of success may well be because companies are reluctant to tell anyone--and especially customers--that their Very Expensive machine is driven by a $35 computer. Customers might start questioning why the whole machine costs as much as it does. I have very expensive commercial equipment that ...

Re: Power Questions Part 2

Keep in mind that using the LM350, a linear regulator, with a voltage drop of 19-5=14 volts, the regulator will generate about three times as much heat as the Pi itself. Assuming a Pi4 at 500 mA idle current draw, that's 7 Watts of heat. Might be better off with a buck regulator, such as the LM2576...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 - boot problem (hybrid sd&ssd)

/dev/sdX is assigned in the order devices are found. A USB device that comes ready slower than another USB device is likely to be assigned a higher /dev/sdX (i.e. /dev/sdb instead of /dev/sda). Which USB ports you use also affects the assignment (exchanging devices in USB ports is likely to change ...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 usb boot?

If a sociable engineer posting for the first time claimed to have created a new EEPROM image that supported USB boot and gave a link here, how many people do you think would try it out? What if some virtual trolls posted that it actually worked and did indeed support USB boot? Sadly I don't agree w...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 usb boot?

Not sure anyone said it could not be done, what was said that it's not possible to brick it as you can ALWAYS recover the system to a known good state with the SD card with recovery.bin on it. And of course you do need superuser write to write to the EEPROM in the first place, but social engineer w...

I have had no issues with having USB sticks connected (tried with FAT and ext4) to USB 2.0 ports with an SSD connected via a USB 3.0 port, at boot time. Probably 30+ reboots in the last month as I mucked about and it has always come up withou...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 usb boot?

If the EEPROM is writable and accessible it is hackable. To make use of "hackable" EEPROM on the pi4 one would need to: 1a) hack the os remotely and gain root access. or 1b) have local physical access 2) Have deep knowledge of VC4/6 hardware and software architecture and have knowledge of and acces...

Does the Pi boot up when not connected to the network? (no Ethernet, no WiFi). You should be able to boot up off a correctly flashed SD card and do the initial config. Once you have that done, and everything appears normal/sane, try plugging it in. Obviously use a known good cat5/6 Ethernet cable th...

Fancy security stickers are a slightly more professional way to do this. Obviously will not prevent tampering but will deter/make it obvious if it has occurred. If you want to secure the SD the only real way is epoxy it in or encase the Pi in a barrier case and epoxy the case screws. Even then you a...

Re: Power Questions Part 2

If you have enough power you certainly could split the output from your P/S and wire in a 19 V to 5 V converter to power the Pi, while still powering the amp with 19V. There are a bunch of ways to do this (basically the expense rising with the efficiency and quality of the converter output). In term...

On the off chance this is a FRC robot, you may want to also investigate setting up the OS as as read only as the Pi does not particularly like being repeatedly hard powered off.

Re: Kodi playback is choppy and laggy 400% kodi.bin usage

Some cheap heatsinks use non-thermal attachment methods (basically generic double sided tape). This tape actually acts as an insulator between the cpu and heatsink, such that you get worse thermal performance than with just a plain cpu. Good heatsinks use special (read expensive) thermal tape that h...

Re: No audio on 2nd HDMI port RPi4 - trying to play VLC video

Just in case it is not clear, you can only select 1 "channel" for audio at a time and with the Pi 4B there are 3 (analog jack, HDMI 0, and HDMI1). The default HDMI port is HDMI0 (the one closest to the USB-C power port). This is true for HDMI video and audio.
