Re: Raspberry Pi 4B boots, then suddenly turns off

Were you plugging all 3 PSU into the same wall socket and is that different that the 5V / 2.1 A powerbrick is plugged into? It is possible you have a power socket that is bad. Are you rural or urban, old or new house/apt, and does your area suffer from brownouts and power failures? While bad Pis occ...

Re: Getting shock from micro hdmi port when connected to tv hdmi port

Of course we now live in a nanny state that mandates auto shuttering outlets, to protect against the very talented baby in a large grounded puddle test. It is difficult to make 110 AC at normal household currents be life threatening if correctly wired (and that is without the IANAL type disclaimer,...

"☠ Warning do not put fork in outlet ☠ " A fork would be fine for NA style outlets since you could only get hot or return... two forks is where it gets interesting, or one fork and a plug. Providing a dead short with say a pickle fork would be exciting, but past the flash it would only be a problem...

Re: a case for my pi 4

I use simple "cases" which are just a top and bottom plate connected by standoffs. Easy to change the height of the standoffs to accomodate any internal height. Currently like a slightly tweaked version of this: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3928666 Protects the Pi from getting placed on somethi...

Re: Prevent shutdown on a Raspberry Pi 4

You need to explain your requirements in more detail as there are a variety of ways and reasons why a Pi will shutdown. What are you trying to achieve and why, as there may be alternative solutions you have not considered.

You also need to detail what OS and Desktop you are running.

It is likely possible. Googling for "how to change trash name in LXDE" will likely get you the info you want. gksu pcmanfm May allow you to change it. Abusing the Location Messages may also be a solution. That a look at: https://askubuntu.com/questions/240431/is-there-a-way-i-can-rename-trash-to-cra...

Re: python3 getch() == null ?

Rephrasing that, you want to only wait some predefined amount of time for the user to provide an input and continue on to do something if no input is received? If that is what you want then yes, it is possible. If that is not what you want, you need to better describe it.

Thanks bjtheone and thagrol. The Logitech k220 has a bluetooth receiver (dongle) which is usually connected to the USB port of PC or TV. Nothing in the documentaion I could find mentions bluetooth. It has a wireless receiver, yes, but not bluetooth. As I said not every wireless device is bluetooth....

Re: Best RPI software that isn't in the Repos?

There are ways to ensure your software works. If you know the secret please do tell. All the world want's to know how. I'm pretty confident in saying it would take you a month of Sundays to get the development environment you describe working on Mac, Win 10 and/or Linux. You are right. Currently we...

Re: connect to wifi ssid not broadcast

Not that I in any way advocate war driving or acquiring access to networks you don't own, it is very instructive to get a x86 laptop with a decent NIC and seeing how trivial it is to (a) determine a hidden SSID, (b) break a WEP password, (c) spoof a MAC. Lucking breaking WPA or WPA2 is more time con...

Re: Best OS for raspberry pi as a everyday desktop?

I would not characterize Ubuntu as "wobbly/unreliable/poorly supported" on x86, where I have been running it for a very very long time I would. After my experiences of having to use it on some x86 boxes since 6 years ago or so. Hopeless. I don't know how they can leach off all the work done by all ...

My son just pondered a 16 GB ram upgrade for his latest toy (some gaming monster PC). He claims it was an amazing deal at $90. That is in the world of hyper competitive mainline RAM package for PC space (ie high volume, lower costs). How much to you think it would be in the world of very low volume,...

Re: connect to wifi ssid not broadcast

Whitelisting MACs is a useful thing to do, since that then requires someone to snoop your network long enough to capture a blessed MAC then spoof that MAC and connect when it is not in use. Not broadcasting your SSID is not, since it does not truly hide it. As Dougie said, it just makes it annoying ...

Re: Newbie here: Pi4/3 question on keyboard/mouse

Most wireless keyboards and mice use an RF transceiver that operating in the 27 MHz range. They work just fine with Pi 3B+ and 4B, subject to the proviso that some USB 3.0 devices with poor shielding interfere with reception. The fix is to use better cables or put the RF dongle on a short USB extend...

Now I am using the beta USB boot EEPROM firmware to boot directly from USB 3.0 SSD (without an SD card), and it's been working great for me. Note that actual boot times are slightly longer, but once the system is up and running it's more responsive. Technically it's still a beta test, so it's recom...

To the best of my knowledge (and Google skills) the 3B does not have a 5GHZ radio (only 2.4 GHz). If you have a 3B+ (with both radios) are you sure that you have your country code correctly set?
