Which Debian image are you using on these cards?
The latest wheezy image fixes many of the problems users have experienced with SD cards. Might I recommend giving that a try first?
The Raspbmc image I suspect ships with these fixes already.

The instructions you are referring to apply to the Debian reference image, not Fedora. Fedora out of the box doesn't use sudo. In order to gain administrative privilages you would typically need to switch to the root user by issuing a command like "su" or "su root" and then enter the root user's pas...

We've seen some pretty impressive figures on Twitter too recently, 28 days being a good record so far.
With regards to cooling, some have talked about attaching heatsinks to the SoC, but as far as I'm aware additional cooling really isn't nessesary, even in an overclocking situation.

Depends on the length of the code I guess. You could use a pastebin like service to share short snippets of demo code. For larger projects I would suggest sharing the binaries and/or source using a digital file locker service such as Dropbox. Bittorrent could work too, but it's not quite as straight...

A tool like gparted under Ubuntu should do the job fine, or even the Disk Utility that ships with it. Just make sure you tell it to create a new partition table on the card before creating the fat32 or partition.
