Re: Etcher didn't work for SD card in Win

Just an FYI here, I spent some time trying to flash an SD image using the recommended program, Etcher, and it was completely no-go. I ran it with admin privileges and it still wouldn't write an image. Finally was able to get it written with win32 disk imager, so I have no problem, but I can't imagi...

Re: Easily run 64-bit Debian Stretch packages on a Raspbian system: new RPi3 demo image released (systemd-nspawn, LXDE)

A 64-bit (aarch64) Debian Stretch userspace guest OS booted inside a lightweight systemd-nspawn container Could you tell me more about systemd-nspawn containers and what they can and cannot do? I am looking to run a second instance of Raspbian Stretch Desktop, inside a QEMU-style window, on my main...

Re: How do I run a Raspbian virtual desktop inside Raspbian?

Update: I succeeded in using systemd-nspawn to correctly boot up the operating system on a second SD card inserted into the easily-reachable USB card slot on my Pi. The familiar code-based CLI boot screen appeared in the terminal. Since I am not emulating hardware, CPU architecture, or even another ...

Re: How do I run a Raspbian virtual desktop inside Raspbian?

According to the Stretch tutorial, Qemu does not yet support Raspberry Pi 3. Instead, they had qemu simulate an entirely different ARM device , versatiale-pb, which has a maximum of 256 MB RAM. Since qemu is emulating an entirely different device, it is totally understandable for it to be too slow, ...

Re: How do I run a Raspbian virtual desktop inside Raspbian?

I would rather not use QEMU, mainly because it is meant to simulate non-native machines and CPU architectures. Since I do not wish to simulate a entirely different machine, I see no reason to use QEMU. Please understand the difference between QEMUs TCG "accelerator" and QEMU with KVM acceleration. ...

Local meet-up with other Raspberry Pi users are normally called ‘Jams’ https://www.raspberrypi.org/jam/ No jams nearby me - I live in Texas. Re: How do I run a Raspbian virtual desktop inside Raspbian?

You could use pxe to boot along these lines https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/hardware/raspberrypi/bootmodes/net_tutorial.md Why would I need to network boot? Could you look to move all apps to one image booting from a USB HD? Simplest to manage updates and backups on. Not possible. For exa...

Re: Can I have a Raspbian virtual machine on Raspbian?

It sounds like the reason for asking to run multiple copies of Raspbian simultaneously is just to avoid physically swapping sd cards? In which case, why not consider PINN? It allows multiple installations of Raspbian to be installed on the same sd card with a boot manager to select which one you wa...

Since you mentioned ssh, to me that sounds like you are running the Pi without a screen. Do you know for sure if VNC Server is running on the Pi?

the 3.3v pins does not work. Usually when the 3.3v pins shows zero volts, it is very difficult to repair. Mac's have the Opt key instead of the Ctrl key. To stop a running program, make the program the focused window and use the key combination of Alt + F4 keys. Alt + F4 only works if the operating system is not frozen. If the operating system is frozen, you have to communicate with the kernel with the...

I have 'special' keys on my keyboard. Keys such as mail button, volume buttons, a star button, and other icons. Is there any chance another area on the Pi fried instead and then the Pi shifted over, making it look like the 5v pins caused it? Or do you see definitive burn marks on the Pi itself around the 5v pin area? There are photos that clearly show just pins 1 and 2 are scorched. However, the photo is a b...

Re: Raspberry Pi is unusable as everyday computer

I could get Raspberry Pi 3B to hang by going to this page in Chromium in Raspbian Stretch https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/87860395/ , but after changing the swap size from 100 MB to 1024 MB it can run. But it's still bad that Chromium hangs the Raspberry Pi when running low on memory. The Raspberr...
