Re: Program SD cards in bulk using one RPi4

I would like to set up multiple RPi 4 units as Display Kiosks. As my country now is in lockdown due to covid19, I only have one RPi4 unit with me. I would like program all the SD cards first, and then courier it to my partner (who will have the rest of the RPi units) to assembly it. My workflow inc...

Re: How process turn off over cron?

You can use the killall command to kill a process by name.
So create a script that kills that process you need to kill and call that script from cron.

Re: Multiple temperature sensors (was Multiple moisture sensors)

You can get Bluetooth temperature senders, like the S1 from Minew.
It requires you to decode the BLE advertisements from the sensors in some C++ or Python code.

Re: Is there any Media Center Software in which one can also browse the web

I have Buster installed and Kodi on top of that.
I have made Kodi autostart at bootup, so I can exit Kodi if I want to return to the desktop to start a browser.
Works fine for me, as I have a K400 keyboard for the desktop and an Apple remote for Kodi.

Re: Reliable means of determining directional heading...

As an interesting side note - many high precision CNC machine tools are required by various governments (Japan especially) to use GPS for localization. For example, one of our machines that we sell monitors the GPS position data to see if it is in the same place it was when it was installed. If the...

Unfortunately, this robot will be used in a variety of environments. While not a commercial unit by any means, I do plan to use it at work in both an office environment and in our showroom (which contains large industrial machinery). Perhaps the IMU and Compass modules are not a workable solution f...

It seems that powering a Raspberry Pi at your remote location is not that easy, so... How about mounting a wild life camera with a much better power supply in the form of a car battery and a large memory card? This could maybe be combined with one of those wifi enabled SD cards, and a Raspberry Pi t...

I've done something a little bit similar, but as scotty101 writes, you can get your RPi to send enything you can cram into a 150 character text message. It's probably possible to send longer messages, but a standard SMS message is around the 150 characters. A standard SMS is 140 characters (IIRC). ...

You'll need to power the new amp from the battery through a fuse. The guide is in the box for the new amp. The standard HiFiBerry DAC+ does not have any volume control, it seems, so you may have to pick one of them with an integrated volume control. I'm not sure though, as I have only used the HiFiB...

cron has a @reboot option, have a look here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/linux/usage/cron.md But you only want to have your script run once, so you'll need to build in protection against the script being run more than once. Remember that there is "user" cron and "root" cron. I think yo...

Re: How to read and process the input from Barcode Scanner/USB Port

The info I can find says that it's compatible (no need for drivers) with Windows, Mac, and Linux.
So it's probably a HID device, i.e. it sends data on USB as a USB keyboard does.
So you should be able to plug it in, start a text editor, scan a barcode and see the contents of the barcode.
