Run the pi as a webserver then use a simple php applet or something similar as the index containing chat.

I get a reply through Minicom on USB3 :/

I can connect but commands don't return anything, USB2 is locked out due to wvdial. Wanting to send AT commands through microcom as the manufacturer says this is more stable method for communication with the modem.

Seems to be a update issue for me, made another SD and update everything but the rpi-update for firmware and now everything is working

Been using a USB Multi Tech modem with Verizon through my Pi that I was given to test. Got through some issues but have it connecting now, whats odd is I went through all the updates for the Pi and what not. I was a bit off then, I ran through some recent updates for the Pi and it seems to actually have increased now. Makes things simple.

. I also used UseDNS No command to improve login prompt times for SSH itself. Between those 2 I am in acceptable range for sure now.

Curious how your guys speeds are. Mine through wvdial with PPP are really slow. I went through and checked all baud rates matched for a consistent flow but I get like 32-64KBps where 3g should be near 1MB/sec. Any ideas how to open that up?

Hitting the same wall. Wvdial and PPP work great together getting my 3G modem online but the connection speed is horrid. I am at a constant like 32KB/sec for speed with a medium signal. Full signal I barely get up to 100KB/sec. Looked at my RAM/CPU usage when SSH in through the modem, plenty of RAM ...

Thanks! Actually going to move everything I can to RAM now and that allows me to limit size. Looking to stabilize the systems a bit, any tricks you guys have found that your willing to share?

Thanks for your help, this was my own ignorance. My modem operates in a private pool, didn't realize this one had been added to the pool so it isn't publicly rout-able....derrr. Going to pull modem sys time directly from the nearest tower via AT command after boot. Should solve this and also do away...

I am having similar issue. Wvdial and PPPoE. I dial up my 3G modem, connects fine. PPP grabs correct static IP from ISP. I can even ping the device and ssh into it through the modem but once inside the Raspi I can't ping anything external. :/

Returns command not found. I may need to dig deeper, tried to Ping a few external sources from the Pi and they all fail. Sources ping fine from my PC so I know they are valid. Seems like either the PPP connection is restricting something or possible my ISP (although my ISP said no ports are blocked ...

I am rather noob but was curious if anyone here could help me with a question:

Is it possible on the Rasp Pi to disable/re enable USB Host Driver to reset all USB devices without
power cycle?

I was thinking would it be possible to simply drop the USB Host driver then re enable. That would in effect reset the USB, anyone know if this is in the Kernel or possible to directly reload?
