Ok, i installed the lastest linux firmware manually available on github by moving files to the sd card and then i did an rpi-update, and it got fixed!

I think something else is missing from Stretch Lite that is stopping the GL driver from working. Have you got a spare SD Card you can install Stretch with Desktop?
