Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Thank you for your reply...I guess I'll just have to take my chances on hard booting it. I had left a question over on Screenly support, but maybe you can answer it here. How am I able to change wifi settings...I'm working on my project here and my Pi was already set up to work off my home network....

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

I'm currently running Screenly, I'm in the process of getting it all set up, but I'm not sure how to turn it off in between times I'm able to work on it. I've heard that if you just unplug the Pi, it may damage it or the SD card....or both. Is there a safe way to shut down? Thanks in advance.... Th...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

I noticed that currently raspberry pi's do not have swap space by defualt. I wonder if is this a sane configuration for raspberry pi's 512. I understand that adding swap will be slow, due to low read/write speed on SDCards, but is this recommended? I think it's a tidy bit dangerous situation to hav...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

I have a screenly OSE pi that i have inherited the responsibility for. it runs a daily display of a single spreadsheet that is stored on the google drive and is a google "sheets" document. however, now the screen says that "the version of the browser you are using is no longer supported." is there ...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Hello, It's been a while since I played around with Screenly. I'm trying to re-install OSE version on a RPi model B. The instructions say: Configure boot behavior to boot into X (required) In order to enable that option in Jessie Lite I need to install lightdm , is that correct or am I missing some...

We only do build releases for every major release, but you can just run the install script and answer yes to the to the question if you want to install the development release.

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

I love this software, but I'm having a slight problem. I've created my setup from the Screenly OSE image provided, updated it and it runs fine when it's connected to the internet. But when I unhook it from my network, it plays a random number of assets and then goes back to the screen showing "Unab...

Hi all, I am brand new to screenly and am probably running before walking but want to ask if you think the following is possible. I want to use a screenly in a bar in a theatre, so as the people arrive to watch a show the screenly is doing its thing and showing images of all the shows coming up in ...

Migration tool for SD to HDD

I'm personally super excited for the new USB boot support in the Raspberry Pi 3. As most of you guys know, SD cards have caused a lot of users a lot of frustration as they tend to break down easily. While the USB Boot support is still considered beta/experimental, it does indeed work. Yesterday I wa...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

I've been using screenly to display a homemade dashboard type website. Yesterday I added a gague graphic from justgage.com It uses Raphael but it will not load on screenly. I haven't done any debugging yet. Does anyone know why that won't work? Tough to say. The web browser used (uzbl) is a bit old...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

One thing I discovered: You can create a Google Slides deck to run on Screenly. Any changes you make to it on Google Drive can be pulled in automatically on an interval. It works quite well on Pi 3. Here's how I did it: [..] I'm not sure why the second URL needed to be different in order to trigger...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Thanks for this awesome product. It works very well. One question that I have: Is there a way to show the IP address again after it disappears? Re: Raspian update breaks Berryboot

I had the same issue, but I was able to easily work around it by using the 'Repair filesystem" feature in BerryBoot. Once I had done that, the system booted just fine again.

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

Would running Screenly on a Pi 3 improve page loading (especially complex sites like weatherunderground.com) or is that limited by uzbl? It's mostly limited by uzbl. There are two issues: 1) It's using a very old version of webkit and 2) it's not hardware accelerated. Also, has anyone thought to bu...

Re: Screenly OSE -- Digital Signage for the Raspberry Pi

I'm not exactly sure how you invoked the installer, but my guess is that it's something related to that. The correct command is: bash <(curl -sL https://www.screenlyapp.com/install-ose.sh) Also, this assumes you're on a standard Raspbian installation without any funky changes to the setup. I invoke...
