Re: Raspberry Pi 4 Green light no boot

I ordered my 4GB pi 4 on 01/2019, and it spent most of the time drawer, apart of a few times when I used as I temporary server for no more than 48 hours. Last week I tried to boot it up headless annndd... it failed to boot. I have the exact same problem as described here: https://www.raspberrypi.or...

* the ability to force usb booting (needs a fuse set, which needs working boot, some users are stuck with it in SD mode, but no SD socket) For CM4 the OTP set is set at manufacture (GPIO40) and the IO module has a jumper for this. Since there are no spare GPIO pins on Pi4 model B it's not defined a...

Re: USB device boot mode for RPI4

USB device mode boot is required for CM4 in order to Reflash the EEPROM Run a custom start.elf to make the on-board EMMC available as a USB MSD device For debug. Load a Linux kernel + initramfs for debug (slow) Loading large files over rpiboot is slow and we are unlikely to put much effort into supp...

Re: Any benifit to overclocking gpu_freq for purely headless users?

I thought I read somewhere there might be benefits to increasing gpu_freq even for headless raspberry pi setups. Is this true? Not really, unless the test is limited by memory bandwidth in which case boosting the core-frequency (also set by gpu freq) to 550 (4kp60) or 600 MHz might be of some benef...

Re: Yesterday, another 3 Pi4Bs 2GB died within 2 hours. Now it's 5 out of 20 dead.

I had to reset the EEPROM in a Pi 4B last week. The noisy screen with green bars looked so much like something had crashed, I took a picture of it. Fortunately, the EEPROM reset had actually worked fine and I was up and running again in short time. http://fractal.math.unr.edu/~ejolson/pi/cluster/gr...

Re: Yesterday, another 3 Pi4Bs 2GB died within 2 hours. Now it's 5 out of 20 dead.

Well great. I just tried the eeprom recovery on a working Pi. As it says in the documentation, the screen turned green to indicate success (it wasn't solid green, but green bars), the green LED blinked fast to indicate success. Powered it off, put in a working sdcard, powered it back on, now it's n...

Re: Yesterday, another 3 Pi4Bs 2GB died within 2 hours. Now it's 5 out of 20 dead.

The 5 dead Pis now show the following behaviour (without sdcard inserted and nothing connected but the official power supply): 1. Steady red LED, steady PWM-dimmed green LED 2. Steady red and green LED, then the green LED goes off and blinks on 4 times repeatedly 3. Steady red and green LED, then t...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4B 8GB vs Raspberry Pi 4B 4GB

Not sure about acceleration but the new power supply on the 8GB board should make it easier to overlock with the ARM at 2GHZ, core at 600MHz. Assuming you are happy with over-voltage and add a fan.

Re: Enable or read HDCP Settings

HDCP 2.0 is disabled in 2711 SOCs. There's no way for Raspberry Pi to enable this even if we wanted to.

I think the same is true for HDCP v1 but that's pointless given that it was cracked over a decade ago.

Re: Broken Pi 4 8GB?

The latest bootloader + rpi-eeprom-update firmware should make uart_2ndstage=1 work again with release builds so that might help diagnose file-system/TFTP errors.

Perhaps try over_voltage=1 but that shouldn't be necessary.

Maybe if it could be integrated manually... :) From next week the VLI in the beta branch is likely to be 0138a1 with an update to the 8GB ...

Re: STICKY: USB-MSD boot EEPROM third update - 2020-06-15

I've promoted this to stable in the Github repository, an APT update will follow shortly. Based on forum comments and internal test interoperability tests there are no known regressions in SD/network boot modes and USB MSD boot works for the majority of USB devices. Therefore, it's better to make th...

I will try that, I have even tried the files from https://github.com/raspberrypi/firmware/boot initially as well with no luck. The USB port power resolves issues where USB devices don't come back after a reboot. There's a bug covering some them here
https://github.com/raspberrypi/rpi-eeprom/issues/151

This sort of thing tends to get fine-tuned over time but for now, it's on by default

Re: USB-MSD boot EEPROM update - 2020-06-12

I've reluctantly added a new config (there are too many configs) USB_MSD_PWR_OFF_TIME which if zero disables power-off when the xHC is initialised. After some more interop tests, the default is 500 and the accepted range is between 250 and 1000. Thank you for that, the USB_MSD_PWR_OFF_TIME=0 works ...
