Thought you could set the Python version in Thonny or is that VS Code only?

Not that setting it back is a good idea mind you...

Had to buy wallpaper rather than a Pi 4 but my birthday is in October :?:  :!: The biggest Pi I have free at the mo is my Zero (only because I've lost my case lid) and I am not even going to try that... I may try on an old Shuttle PC I found under the bed (do not ask) so I'll happily take the n...

To set up a static IP just add your equivalent of interface eth0 static ip_address=192.168.1.11/24 static routers=192.168.1.254 static domain_name_servers=192.168.1.2 hostname = web.local to /etc/dhcpcd.conf. Re: New Raspbian Buster and Thonny idle, "hate at first sight"

The Thonny virtual environment may also be your issue  Thonny runs a virtual environment on the Pi and you often have to import the module into Thonny as well as the normal operating environment. What makes it worse is that there are two ways in Thonny to do this - one installs into the vir...

Re: Raspbian Desktop boot error: failed to start rng-tools and Raspbian shows Blank desktop with only Trash Icon

rng-tools will fail as your PC does not have a hardware random number generator as a guess. You can uninstall it using apt: sudo apt update sudo apt uninstall rng-tools I've not installed Haveged as a replacement on my VM but not had the other issue you have seen. By the sound of it, the menu bar is...

Re: how do I give pi ownership of this folder?

You can try adding

Code: Select all

uid=pi,gid=pi
to the mount in fstab

I think the change owner only works when the folder is not being used at the time, so you have to dismount (unmount sounds better :?: ),change then mount it the drive again.

Re: New Raspbian Buster and Thonny idle, "hate at first sight"

Try VS Code from Microsoft https://code.visualstudio.com/ It supports remote debugging on a Pi so you can use your Mac / Linux box / Pc and run direct on the Pi. Only drawback I can see is that the source is kept on the Pi with no local backup so I loose the advantage of TimeMachine. One thing I’ve ...

If you look at the base directory where WordPress is installed (somewhere under /var/www/ is normal) you will find a file called wp-config.php In here you will see a set of declarations for the database: /** The name of the database for WordPress */ define('DB_NAME', 'database_name_here'); /** MySQL...

Re: Can You Wirelessly Transmit Data Pi To Pi

Two easy ways I can think of: 1) A program called Samba will allow you to make a directory on the Pi available to other machines. Once set up, you can use the built in command mv to move files from the local directory to the remote one. Samba is not too hard to get set up but it will take a bit of w...

Are you running Samba to share the disk with the Mac at all?

Re: Error using "curses" to control RPI zero

Welcome to the forum, Curses is designed to be used in a terminal / condole session and not a GUI. The print problem is due to you mixing up Python 2 (print without brackets) and Python 3. This is normal if you are new to the Pi and copying old web sites. If you are using Buster and Thonny as the ed...

If you are running Buster, you do not need to load any entropy tools as the rng-tools library is now shipped as standard.

Re: Thonny Strech error

The first one will not know where Python is where I expect the second one has a full hash bang entry. If you replace the python3 with /usr/bin/python3 then the first should run. The hash bang tells the system what program should be used to execute the code. So for a Python 3 program the first line w...

I like using the old ini file format beloved of Windows 3.11 etc

This is done with the configparser module.

Though I have a background in EDI formats, XML, JSON etc, I find the ini format neat and very readable.

Have you anything in the firewall of the raspnas4 box that could be blocking name resolution?

You could try this and change the order of the resolution to see if anything works

Welcome to the forum, If you are tight for space then look at the Pi Zero W board . Range on all Pis depends on the surroundings and you cannot add an ex...

You could have IPv4 disabled or the DHCP server is not giving out addresses...

Re: speedtest difference Windows-RPi4

Be aware you used pip and not pip3. pip is the support package for Python 2 IIRC It's actually more complicated than that. With pip It depends on which version was installed last. If you install pip3 after pip2 then pip will point to pip3. Interesting - not seen that on the Stretch box where I have...

Re: Pi not getting IPv4 address, though I can connect via ssh

Once you are on the Pi can you issue

Code: Select all

ifconfig
in the terminal - this will show you the IP details.

My guess is the router needs the classic IT solution (off and on again).
