Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

is it possible to have the webinterface running with motion detection and recording and all the features and parallel an output h.264 for piping constantly to vlc for archiving a rtsp h.264 Quality stream? It looks like http://<IP>/cam_pic_new.php will give you the mjpeg stream directly. I can open...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

@emphillips18 - I'm doing something very similar; I'm using the macros to accomplish this. One example: edit (or create) the end_box.sh script in the /var/www/html/macros directory to add following: #!/bash/bin echo 'md 0' > /var/www/html/FIFO sleep 600 echo 'md 1' > /var/www/html/FIFO Some caveats:...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

Is there a way to make the default user level (when there is no login required) something other than the highest level? My ultimate goal is to grant access level 2 to anybody with no login required, and then be able to log in and get access level 6. I think the latter is doable by setting up a separ...

Re: RPi Cam Web Interface

Why does the apparent zoom change when you change the resolution? Full HD 1080p looks more "zoomed in" than 720p. If anything, I'd expect it to be the other way around.

Is there a way to "zoom out" the 1080p view to get as wide a field of view as the 720p setting?

Re: Special-case power requirements

I'm learning a lot here! I have a vague notion of capacitance, but honestly I've never understood inductance very well. Thanks for the link, PeterO - I think it's time for a YouTube education on inductance. wh7qq - perhaps it's asking too much of this medium, but can you explain what a very small (....

Re: Special-case power requirements

Well this is interesting ... I put a 10V, 1500µf capacitor across the wire, and it's been running fine for close to an hour. If I remove the capacitor while the system is running it crashes (not immediately, but within a minute or two). At the moment I'm not even using the 7805; I'm just going from ...

Re: Special-case power requirements

It seems there's something going on that's caused by the wire. I have a power supply that puts out 5.2V and 2A. When I run that power supply to the wire and then to a different Pi Zero W with no peripherals and nothing but a fresh install of Stretch Lite, the Pi goes into a reboot cycle (starts as n...

Re: SSH Tunnel and port forwarding question

Short answer: it's secure. Longer explanation: everything over SSH is encrypted. If you think of protocols are tubes that connect the internet together, think of SSH tunneling as a smaller tube inside a larger tube. To extend the analogy, think of encryption as paint that makes a normally clear tube...

Re: Special-case power requirements

Yeah, the 7805 is a poor choice; it's just what I had on hand. I've got a buck converter on order. I also misspoke on the wire gauge; it is 16 AWG, so 40' shouldn't drop more than a tenth of a volt or so. The LEDs are throttled way down with 250 ohm resistors (don't need much output to illuminate 12...

Special-case power requirements

My Zero W keeps rebooting about once a minute, apparently due to power problems. My application is an IR cam inside a owl house, which is in wifi range but has no easy access to AC power. I'm trying to run it off a car battery as follows: Car battery --> 24v/12v-to-5v regulator--> ~20' of 2-conducto...
