Re: Child's first computer

Thanks, That looks interesting I'm wondering if it would be possible to set that up with pi-hole? Is it possible to configure a group to use a different DNS server than the rest of the network? I have enabled the DHCP server under pi-hole I have looked into the setting and don't see anything like wh...

Child's first computer

Hello Everyone, Today I gave my soon to be 4 year old her own Raspberry pi. I started to think about internet safety and computer safety in general. I've installed some games that were recommended in a post asked about here and there some web sites that have online games and colouring we do together...

Re: AP not connecting properly

I found the project, https://github.com/billz/raspap-webgui I've used this more recently and it worked perfectly. I've also set up hostapd manually and it can be problematic of you haven't done it before there are a many parts to it. Sounds like you don't have something installed correctly though if...

Re: AP not connecting properly

I don't have it with me but there's a project that will set up an access point, VPN, and Pi Hole. Should you need all three or you can just use what you need it has a nice web interface after it's all done to mange the Access point. Maybe someone else knows what it's called. It takes all the tricky ...

I try to always use a surge protector or UPS device on a Pi, computer tv, ect. It helps limit issues you might face but nothing is certain.

Re: What's going on with my SD card

Thanks for that this card came in a kit and looking back it's always given strange issues. I also almost always use SanDisk cards but I have about three Kingston cards now that were onsale, I thought I would try them and they work well. Since changing my card I've noticed significant changes. So man...

Re: What's going on with my SD card

Should a U3 SD card be overclocked? I am trying to get my important work off this card and backed up to a new Kingston card the install on this card is corrupt and many issues I was having with this Pi can be solved with a different card. Going down this path is tricky in these days I'm not able to...

Re: Connecting the pi 400 to other computers as just a keyboard?

As a matter of fact since you asked and I just found it. I did the following and it works Pi Zero with the Pi 400's SD card installed for a graphical desktop. The Pi 400 booting off the USB stick as a keyboard plugged into (both work) a micro usb to usb A adapter, or a usb unpowered hub with Etherne...

Re: Connecting the pi 400 to other computers as just a keyboard?

So just for fun I want to try this. I want to build a minimal initramfs image what kernel drivers do I need and are any special programs required. If I can make it work I will post the image back for the OP. I have a Pi 4 8GB on my desk and the Pi 400 the Pi 400 already boots to a minimal initramfs....

Re: Pi 4 as webcam for Pi 400

This might be what you want

https://github.com/geerlingguy/pi-webcam

Jeff Geerling has made the process simple. Not sure it works on a Pi 4 but I don't see why it wouldn't.

I've been doing some testing on the new version and thanks to @nliviu for pointing out an issue with the monitor_device function and @CharlyDelta for finding the one wire interface can generate a GPIO conflict. I have been able to generate the following errors on purpose. Sun Jan 10 15:30:21 2021 [E...

Re: A question about git

I know exactly how it happened the project is laid out this way each code sub version has a branch 0.1, 0.2, ect. The master branch holds the most stable code all bug fixes for the current version are done that versions branch then tested before merging them to the master. The problem was that the n...

Re: A question about git

I'd like to thank all of you for your input. To go through it is not that complex now looking back. I renamed my new version branch to new features then I created the new version branch from the master so it has all the bug fixes and most importantly the updated documentation. Then I made a local co...

Re: A question about git

And as a bonus what's the best way to have a stable master branch and keep the next branch with new features in sync with the bug fixes? Let's say we have a mater branch as usual, and we have a branch for a new feature. Call it the "feature". Typically the problem is that whilst work is b...

Re: Argon One Replacement Daemon

Maybe a flag like "rising_edge_detected" might be useful to ensure the pulse detection sequence is rising edge followed by a falling edge? The odd thing is that these out of sequence events are flooding the log, then once the patch was applied everything is working as it should. This migh...

Re: Argon One Replacement Daemon

@DarkElvenAngel I think I have an idea where the -16 comes from. The origin of it might be from lines 345-349 . If ioctl fails with errno=EBUSY (16), the monitor_device function returns -16. That's why we don't see "Monitoring line 4 on /dev/gpiochip0" in the log which is issued in line 3...

Excellent, and the CPU usage is staying low? I appreciate your testing, and bringing this issues to my attention. If this all works well I'll apply this patch to the project. 19 hours in and all looks good, no weirdness in log and cpu for your daemon sitting at 0 Thank you for the follow-up. It hel...

Re: How to create the smallest image possible?

Your other option is buildroot to do the same thing you can cherry pick what you want and play around. No! No, no, no, no no! I don't want to BUILD an image, I want to take an existing installation , configured the way I want , and create a smallest-possible image from that entire installation so t...
