Running a pi 3, DC Motor Hat, and Google Voice Hat off of batteries

I am stacking a Google voice hat on top of a E336755 Adafruit DC motor hat on top of a raspberry pi 3. The Google Voice hat has an option to run batteries to it if you cut a solder joint. The DC motor hat also has a terminal for batteries. Do I need to run power to both? One? Which one? Are 4 AA bat...

I used sudo su to run sudo shell and then ran the command and it works 50% of the time. When it doesn't work the xbox needs to be released / renewed / what have you and then run the program again.
