Re: PiVPN: Can't connect to pi from work?

I work at a university so that could be the case. There is one thing, i also have a windows computer running where i connect to via vnc. That connection is not blocked. Could there be something special happening with the vnc session because i’ve set it up using an account login rather than ip setti...

Re: PiVPN: Can't connect to pi from work?

Hi there, thanx for the reply! so this would be a case of the outgoing ports of my laptop? the ict people at my work are not really educated, i've been trying to ask these questions to them but they don't seem to even understand what i'm trying to ask them. Is there a way to fix this my self? can I...

Re: PiVPN: Can't connect to pi from work?

Almost certainly, your work network is set up (probably intentionally) to block the ports OpenVPN is trying to use. You will need to talk to the network types at work to see if this can be changed and/or whether they have any other suggestions.

What I want to do is to be able to, at midnight every night for the RPI to perform a cron job that will - 1. Backup the MYSQL database for the forum. 1.1 Upload this backup to a file on the NAS - \backups\Elite\RPI-MYSQL\<foldername as date and time> (e.g. 2018-11-08) 2. Backup any files uploaded, ...

Re: Controlling an RF thermostat

Most thermostats operate on 24V AC supplied by the HVAC system, and only reasonable care in wiring them is necessary - mains thermostats do exist but are becoming increasingly rare. You should turn off the HVAC system at the furnace/circulator before working on the thermostat, but this is more to a...

Re: Controlling an RF thermostat

I had not noticed that your initial post included a link to the manual for your thermostat. This bears careful study! I now gather that the device you pictured is actually a battery-powered wireless controller for what amounts to a radio-controlled (and mains powered) relay that is located near the ...

Re: Controlling an RF thermostat

I thought the best way to go about this would be to get an RF transceiver (868 MHz is what my thermostat uses) to sniff the signals from my thermostat controller and then emulate those using the transceiver. I do have one question with this approach if anybody could answer, would the heating go out...

Re: How to disable WIFI on RPI0W between boots, but not be permanently locked out

Hopefully someone will jump in with the specifics, but I believe that you can turn off WiFi in software. Assuming that this is correct, I would write a very simple script that turned it off, waited an appropriate length of time (for you to do whatever you are likely to want to do with it off) and th...

Re: DC-DC 12V-5V Converter power issue

How are you connecting power from the power supply to the RPi? What is the voltage at the GPIO pin 2? Note that many USB cables are too thin or too long or poor quality and will introduce too much voltage drop. And there is the problem that others have emphasized in this context that the Pi sees an...

Re: Upgrade 2B to 3B+ ; Software Needs?

I'm pretty frustrated with this one. I upgraded a long running Raspberry Pi 2B to a 3B+ and now it's not working at all. I just swapped case, hardware (camera, etc), and then just shifted the drive (SD card) from one to the other. But it's not working. Is there some easy way to get the software upg...

Typical - having removed the Pi 3B+ from its case, ready for return to the (helpful) supplier, and testing it "naked" on the bench, it's working perfectly! Now I have to find what's causing the problem?... It was a plastic case, before you ask... One (low probability) possibility to consider: I hav...

Re: Time and Date of Switched off Pi

I assume that the people who are turning it off are simply 'pulling the plug', which will sooner or later also cause you SD card corruption. The obvious problem with it recording, or particularly notifying you, when this happens is that there is currently not enough time for it to do so before it ca...

Re: Python script doesn't start at boot

Delete the entries out of rc.local and try this in crontab for background programs: @reboot /user/bin/python3 /home/pi/nationsbot/main.py & the ‘&’ at the end will tell the task to run as a separate thread as it may not end. Note this will not help if your program or python3 requires anything in th...

Is it possible that your WiFi network is still using WEP ("Wired Equivalent Privacy", which is now anything but). I believe that this is not supported by recent versions of Raspbian.

Re: Supplying power to RaspPi and Touchscreen embedded in a wall

...Or add a power outlet in the wall, with a 2usb port adaptor and do it that way... If you are thinking of using the '2usb port adapter' to power the Pi, you will need to be very sure that it will provide the power that the Pi needs consistently and without a significant voltage drop. These boards...

It would also help greatly if you could post (between code tags) the contents of the file 'credentials.mysql'. If there are passwords in it that you don't want to share, just replace them by asterisks or the like, but don't change anything else. It appears that this should be a JSON file and that it...

If my Spanish is working properly, apt-get is telling you that MySQL is already installed (which is correct, by default, in newer Raspbian versions), so it didn't do anything - including (not) running the MySQL post-install script.
