How to create ~/.profile

The project I am working on provided information that I should update my ~/.profile. The challenge was, I didn't have a ~/.profile
The project instructions indicated , that if I didn't have ~/.profile, that I should create one. I do not know how to do that? Any help?

As predicted. It did not work. However I did get an error that the directory could not be found. I'm going to start over and reload Raspbien. thanks for your help anyway!

Re: Password

I had been following a OpenCV installation guide from https://www.pyimagesearch.com/2016/04/1 ... -opencv-3/ and had shutdown for the night. I was downloading code for a project.
