Re: Wow, sweet 64

Now I'm running cpuminer-multi on 1 thread and it went from about 3.15 kH/s (32 bit) to 4.13 - 4.25 kH/s (64 bit). Hi ab1jx, By coincidence, I'm working on an ebuild of cpuminer-multi for the gentoo-on-rpi3-64bit image at the moment, because of a user request. As such, would you mind posting some b...

Sakaki, no vcgencmd in Gentoo64? Trying to figure out how to find what values are default as set by start.elf? It is available, but not in the current shipped image. To get it do: pi64 ~ # emaint sync --repo rpi3 pi64 ~ # emerge -av media-libs/raspberrypi-userland Package available on the binhost, ...

How to find them and change them in Gentoo64? I want to try changing the sdram to 500MHz on my locking combo Pi3B+ /SDcard. I have l...

Yes. Fixes for some other lan78xx stuff have already been committed, but afaik changes addressing the above two issues have not yet landed in tree.

RPi3 B+ Ethernet Issues (RPi3 B users unaffected) and Workaround gentoo-on-rpi3-64bit users, Currently, there appear to be two issues with the RPi3 B+'s LAN7515 chip which can significantly affect performance (and which will need fixes in the customized lan78xx driver , most likely). Wow Sakaki, Am I right that this could speed up porting 32bit stuff to Aarch64 Pi's? Yes, absolutely, for example I built 64-bit firefox-59.0.2 that way yesterday for the RPi3, in 1 hr 44 mins from source (just pushed to the binhost, btw). That's more than an order of magnitude faster than building...

Emerging aarch64 rust-1.25.0 for RPi3, via QEMU PC chroot (tutorial)

Hello, To get aarch64 rust-1.25.0 to build for my gentoo-on-rpi3-64bit project's binhost recently, I had to resort to emerging in a user-mode QEMU binfmt_misc chroot on my PC (it now isn't really feasible to build this natively on an RPi3, as it needs over 3GiB of swap (and isn't distcc-friendly), s...

What device tree blob does the pi 2 v 1.2 use? Looking at https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/tree/rpi-4.14.y/arch/arm64/boot/dts/broadcom there doesn't seem to be a device tree for the pi 2? I have an RPi3 B+ running as a build server / distcc client for my Gentoo project. Without a heatsink it definitely throttles during builds, although as noted earlier , it first throttles back to 1.2GHz (and tends to stay there) which is still a big improvement over the default thermal performance o...

why your build can play VLC? which version which v_out driver? Yes, it ships with vlc 2.2.8. Output is via GL (the image uses vc4-fkms-v3d with Mesa userland support). Also included on the image is smplayer 18.3.0 and kodi 17.4_rc1, in case VLC not to your taste. Edit: forgot to mention this above,...

Yup, 64 bit kernel, 32 bit userland. Got it. Thanks for clarifying. This seems like a nice combination as it allows keeping the 32-bit proprietary parts of Raspbian such as Minecraft and Mathematica. How hard would it be to get a 64-bit C compiler running? Probably the quickest (although not necess...

Is swap drive running from USB when Gentoo boots from USB? Just wondering if that is causing the lagging? Yes, the image runs ships with a 512MiB swapfile on the root partition, for simplicity, so root on USB implies swap on USB. If running lots of open apps, and your storage is slow, you may exper...

How to install and run 32-bit Raspbian apps on 64-bit Gentoo (RPi3 B/B+)

Hello, if you are running a 'pure' 64-bit Gentoo system on your RPi3 B / B+ (such as my gentoo-on-rpi3-64bit image), you may sometimes find yourself wishing you could just install and run a particular 32-bit package from Raspbian, if it has not yet been added to the Gentoo arm64 tree. So, I had a quick look at FPC yesterday, since you'd mentioned it earlier. The current main-tree FPC ebuild on Gentoo doesn't support aarch64/arm64 at the moment. To write a tweaked one that will work, I'd need an aarch64-linux binary FPC package for the bootstrapping phase of the build (as modern F...
