String manipulation errors with raspi-copies-and-fills 0.10

I have been running a 12000 line pure python (core language with no extra packages) database program successfully on many machines (Windows,Debian Jessie,Debian Stretch, Ubuntu,Raspbian Jessie, Raspbian Stretch) for the last 7 years. I am absolutely confident in the code. After latest upgrade of Ras...

Re: Veracrypt for Raspbian

Thanks for thoughts I compiled Veracrypt 1.23 and tried it Veracrypt is easier to compile than Truecrypt 7.1a which I have been using on Pi B2 B3 and B3+ for last 3.5 years on a daily basis. Truecrypt containers open very quickly The first Veracrypt container that I created took more than 2 minutes ...

Re: Is there a way to encrypt a single folder on a USB stick or usb drive

In response to the original question I use : tcplay to create and use truecrypt containers, mounted as folders, on a USB memory stick cryptsetup to create and use LUKS encrypted containers, mounted as folders, on a USB memory stick Both are in the Raspbian repositories and easy to use - I recommend ...

Re: Veracrypt for Raspbian

According to an old post mounting [ a Veracrypt volume ] takes forever (!): https://randomgooby.wordpress.com/2015/03/02/quick-tip-veracrypt-on-a-raspberry-pi-2/ I wonder if any of you who have compiled possibly more recent versions of Veracrypt can advise how long does it take to mount a container ...

Re: Chromium-browser and Bleachbit

It's a problem with chromium-browser 65.0.3325.181-0+rpt4 and fontconfig. Chromium is very slow to start after the clearing the cache to recover disk space if many fonts have been installed. To reproduce : - install josm (java open street map) which requires installation of a large number of fonts -...

Re: Openbox lxde-pi-rc.xml configuration problem Nov 18 Raspbian Stretch

Thanks - I have been well aware of the problems with obconf and lxappearance-obconf and have commented in the forums.

Before the problems with those utilities were fixed they would not even run !

My configuration problem occurs with a fully updated system

Openbox lxde-pi-rc.xml configuration problem Nov 18 Raspbian Stretch

I have been configuring as follows : - use pipanel to set desktop properties and system font - use obconf to set windows properties (theme, appearance and mouse) - use lxappearance to set widget theme and icon theme I have done this successfully 45 (!) times with previous versions of Raspbian (Jessi...

Chromium-browser and Bleachbit

I am finding that after running Bleachbit, the new version of chromium-browser fails to start and has to be removed and reinstalled in order for it to work properly. This was not a problem with earlier versions. Does anyone else have this problem ?

Re: lxappearance not working (due to obconf plug-in seg fault)

Inspired by Frederk in a separate thread I removed lxappearance-obconf to make lxappearance work. I hope the foundation arrange for lxappearance-obconf plug-in to be fixed (like obconf) so that the integrity of LXDE metapackage is restored !

Re: [GUIDE] Raspbian Lite with RPD/LXDE/XFCE/MATE/i3/Openbox/X11 GUI

obconf seems to be ok now after latest update/upgrade however lxappearance does not work at the moment leading to difficulties in setting gtk theme and icon theme etc. A possible workround may be to edit the configuration files directly using any text editor. The relevant files are ~/.config/lxsessi...

Re: lxappearance not working

Thanks gkreidl - a good work round - but I hope the foundation are going to fix it as this is of course an absolutely core part of LXDE ! One other possibility I suppose is to manually edit /home/pi/.config/lxsession/LXDE-pi/desktop.conf to configure some of the GTK themes but this doesn't fix every...

Re: Moving Linux kernel to 4.14

I just found a fix to playing files over a network with VLC I had to specify vers=1.0 for the smb version in the samba mount (using autofs). Without this the smb version defaults to vers=2.1 (presumably) and this stops VLC from working properly ! This is quite inconvenient because one can't use the ...

Re: Moving Linux kernel to 4.14

I am having difficultly playing mp3 files over a network using VLC since upgading to kernel 4.14. A short mp3 file - 20 MB - takes a minute to start playing over my network where iperf indicates a network speed of about 80 Mbit/s. Playback over the network using VLC starts immediately (in 1 or 2 sec...

As noted in my earlier post, (auto)mounting of samba shares stopped working for me after upgrading from 4.9.80 to 4.14.30 kernel and I reverted to kernel 4.9.80. https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=210429 After further investigation it appears that the nominal samba protocol vers...

Re: Realtek wireless adapter not connecting in Stretch (Jessie OK)

Thank you for your reply See attached output from running my r92su installation/update script as listed earlier in thread. I had to revert to the 4.9.80 kernel

to get my Realtek wireless adapter working again

Automount stops working after 4.14.30 kernel upgrade

Automount (using autofs with winbind) stopped working afer I upgraded from 4.9.80 to 4.14.30 kernel. The problem is repeatable - I checked with a second sd card with same kernel update. My /etc/auto.master and /etc/auto.sambashares (listed at bottom of this page) have permissions set correctly as 75...
