Re: Another Elite thread
A Mac version, how quaint. I wouldn't even see me playing it on my Linux laptop, let alone the dust-ridden desktop PC. Target the Pi first, that's what I say - much more like days of yore, sitting for hours in front of a telly screen, until eyelids need matchsticks. I'd still like a definitiv...

Re: USB Port Current Boost (solved)
...we've decided that the best course of action is to remove the USB fuses from the design. Right now they're linked out, but on a subsequent board revision the pads will be removed entirely. Interesting step to take (cheaper than better specification polyfuses?) and presumably there's no complicat...

I can't argue there.pygmy_giant wrote:Personally, I'd rather stick with a beta board supported by a growing community with known problems that are being fixed than chance my arm with another unknown board.

Re: Heat
... You're not connecting the heatsink to the broadcom chip, you're connecting it to the RAM mounted on top of it. I'm doubtful you're doing any meaningful cooling to the broadcom chip. I beg to differ, given the proximity of CPU/RAM. Extracting the heat from the RAM must logically cause a temperat...

Off-topic compared to original post but to respond directly to: ...If HW problems come to light, then future board revisions will include them... etc. Having tried 5 PSUs and 6 powered hubs, from feeBay - with very limited funds to purchase more - I'm sure you can appreciate the frustration. Re: Heat
I got two copper ones from a seller in China (about 10 days to arrive) for the princely sum of £2. :D They look cool but run pretty hot, so they must be doing something. 8-) Just need to get around to cutting down a low profile black aluminium heat sink for the LAN enclosure - I've got a few spare o...

Installing slim DM allows you to pick & choose which WM that you wish to use, by default. There is a forum post in this section about slim. Admittedly, it means adding a bit of software but certainly was easy when I tried it. sudo apt-get install slim http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewtopic....

Polyfuse & Capacitor Kit (UK-based)
Perhaps someone could put together a kit with 3 replacement polyfuses and the additional suitable capacitor, to help alleviate the well known USB issues. Typically, when the items are purchased, only packs of ten are available and there is a minimum postage charge. This is excessive for the typical ...

Once again, many thanks for your efforts. It's really appreciated what you do for the community.
I began my first foray into compiling a kernel on this low-spec laptop but reckon it's going to be quite some time before I'm any where near up to speed with this stuff (if at all).

Re: USB packet loss.
I'm posting here, rather than on other threads (it's very fragmented!) in the hope that it helps someone. I'm finally making some progress with the fiasco that is Pi USB. No point in going over the same old ground but suffice to say that 5 hubs, numerous 5v power supplies and cables later, I appear ...

Re: Log files & SD Card wear
Yes, I've being doing a little tweaking to logrotate, reducing the number of saved files and compression of the saved logs. If anything, it saves on disc space but there's still writing going on. I'm sure that there must be some that can be turned off and only resumed for debugging purposes.

Re: Berryboot v1.1 - Boot menu / OS installer
To upgrade a pre-existing SD card to the latest release of Berryboot, can you confirm which files should be overwritten? I was going to experiment but I don't fancy screwing up my quadruple boot card, if I can help it.
TIA

In my particular case it's actually for a wiimote (I use 'the other type' of wireless keypad/trackball) and the handling of the wiimote is done within the distro, as long as the device is detected (in theory)...But where do you plan to use Bluetooth for?

(Is it time for me to create a compiling environment on my poorly specced laptop?)
It would be handy if this thread was stickied, given the importance of MATE to the desktop experience.

Re: USB Port Current Boost (solved)
you only need comparable parts not the exact parts. Look for PTC resettable fuses. I found these at Newark and Digikey also. Newark was cheaper. I am sure you will find them at almost any components house. I would have ended up paying more for shipping than the parts but I bought some other parts a...

I've been following this thread for quite some time and I'm now ever-so-tempted to 'fix' this fundamental USB fiasco. However, I think a UK source of components would be better for many: MERCHANDISE TOTAL: £1.02 Delivery Charge: £12.00 Order Total: £13.02 Excuse the lack of formatting but you'll get...

Re: Berryboot v1.1 - Boot menu / OS installer
I'm having trouble enabling bluetooth in the Foundation Raspbian, that's been booted from Berryboot. Could it be that your cutdown kernel doesn't have a bluetooth module compiled in fully, or there's a /lib/module missing? It's a fairly common chipset: # lsusb Bus 001 Device 007: ID 0a12:0001 Cambri...
