Raspberry Pi Emulator (hotswap)

Is there an Raspberry Pi emulator I can run through windows, where I can just plug in the SD card and run the Pi OS. Make changes to it, then move it over to the pi, plug it in and use the updated OS from the PC? So far I am seeing alsorts of different options, but none really seem to allow this lev...

Desktop was, but now is no longer available

Hi Guys. Following the linked tutorial here: http://www.instructables.com/id/Raspberry-PI-THE-HOME-SERVER-TURNKEY-LINUX/ I am trying to setup a home server, that said, I actually want the desktop. After running all the commands, detailed, and following them with the following, it bases the install o...

Installing Webmin - Errors / Freezing

Hi Guys, So I am trying to follow a few guides on installing webmin. Starting off with the webmin itself, I ran the command : wget http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/webadmin/webmin_1.831_all.deb This was successful, so I move onto the next step: dpkg --install webmin_1.831_all.deb Now I find its st...

Re: Pi3 - Using SD as FS and USB as data drive

Many thanks for your reply.

Is my "hope" of running the SD just as an OS, and then having apps / data installed to an alternative place not achievable?

Re: New To Pi and Advice Appreciated!

Thanks Richard,

In the end, the deal fell through, so instead I replaced it with a 3B.

I am going to have a look at the Adafruit and start running through it all, as it seems to be coming together well!

Re: Connecting a standard "Windows" NTFS hard drive to a Pi

Thank you to you both, clearly caution should be considered with this project, on the offchance data loss is a risk.... perhaps a handful of cloud accounts are required!

Re: Connecting a standard "Windows" NTFS hard drive to a Pi

Thanks Martin, I had a read through and I can see that would generate a read only scenario.

Out of curiosity, what would be the answer to

a) implement a read / write driver, and
b) how much of a "risk" is there to my data (given the statement, the "read only driver is safer"?

Thanks

"Extend Filesystem" missing

Hi Guys, Another part of my ongoing project! So I have a 16 GB drive, and a 32GB drive for that matter (SD) which I am trying to get up and running with the Pi. Currently, I am running the 16GB for example, and it has a partition of 13GB going to waste. I tried to use the "extend filesystem" option ...

Connecting a standard "Windows" NTFS hard drive to a Pi

Hi All, I am currently trying to setup my pi as a home server. The issue I have, is I have three hard drives I want to "share" with the network, a 4TB, and 2x2TB drives. Some tutorials I have read, stated data must be removed, and the hard drive reformatted before it can be used. However, what I am ...

Running my Pi through Qemu - Help!

Hi Guys, So I have been trying to run my Pi SD card on an emulator running Qemu as the "pi". I have downloaded and installed the latest Qemu for x64, and I have copied over the kernel-qemu-x.x.xx-jessie files etc etc. I have created a batch file, encompassing the following lines. The batch runs, and...

Hi Guys, So I am looking at a project. I have my Pi3, two hard drives and an ambitious plan.... The device will become a home server. I am currently using raspbian and an 8gb Micro SD card. Re: New To Pi and Advice Appreciated!

Haha thanks guys... Well my 3 arrived today, now I'm struggling to find a hdmi screen to abuse that is not being abused by wife or kids 24/7,so an embedded screen is going to have to be ordered. I even ordered a small projector (nothing fancy) but should allow portability for display for any of my t...

Re: Can my pi do this?

Well, the sale actually fell through so I am not getting the model B.

That said, I just bought two other devices, one apparently is the Pi 3 and another is a model B+.

I guess the 3 would be better served to handle this, but would the B+ v1.2?

Can my pi do this?

OK, So I am currently awaiting the delivery of my first pi, a model B, seemingly 2011, 512mb ram. I have a few plans for it, and wonder if it would be stretching its capabilities. I would be primarily using it as a "jump box" so I could dial into it from anywhere in the world, and then either access...

Re: New To Pi and Advice Appreciated!

Thanks for your reply and suggestion. Unfortunately it is the model B I have bought but I don't have the budget to buy bigger with the pi3, this is really to allow me to get my teeth into it and it's capabilities and see what I can get it to do, then may upgrade later. By the sounds of it you are su...

New To Pi and Advice Appreciated!

Hi All, So I am new to Pi, in fact, my first step was just purchasing a RasPi from 2011, looks like its the "Model B". I know I need to setup an SD card with Raspbian but I am wanting it ideally to be all in one unit, I will be using it as a gateway to my home network, probably have VNC running on i...
