I opted to not utilize a SW solution as I really didn't want to bring the music audio into the RPi3 to do so as USB would've been the only way (not to mention the amount of coding that may have been required). Thanks for the reply and suggestion. Not sure why that option never came to me (perhaps cause I'm really a HW guy first, SW second). No idea right now if that'll work but I'll research and advise.

You can use some std linux media programs, so long as they are compatible with Jessie Debian. Best way is to compile a version on your RPi. I compiled VLC on my RPi3 and it works well (though it took a LONG time to compile. Search the web / board for how to install / compile VLC for Jessie Debian. st
