Re: Custom camera module for CM3+: cables and crypto chip

Hi stuartclark, yes, i want to use commercially available cables with typical cost under 10$ for 4 ft.. 1. you are right. especially for USB-C i am worried that there could be additional electronics involved. But as far as HDMI is concerned I am sure it works, 'cause I've tested it since a couple of...

[Kinda SOLVED] Custom camera module for CM3+: cables and crypto chip

I am building my first project with CM3+ , and designing a custom PCB carrier board. I've prototyped the final board with various breakout boards and smaller PCB and the overall project works. Now I need to complete it: the project requires an external camera, placed a few feet away from the CM boar...

Ok,
one way is to install PiCamera and follow this simple recipe

https://picamera.readthedocs.io/en/rele ... he-preview

Empirically the lag seems negligible.

Hi,
did you manage to have it working?
I have the same problem on my CM3+, so I don't think your CM was defective.

See here for what I have done

Best way to composte text/graphics over camera preview (headless PI)

Hi, I have two raspberries (both a Zero and Compute Module) with an external DPI display and a camera v2.1 connected and working. The OS is Buster lite (so no X or GUI and I don't need one). I can send the live feed from the camera to the LCD with raspivid -f -t 0 -md 6 -fps 30 and everything works ...

Re: camera pin overlay

Just to update info, I've managed to make it work and I can confirm you cannot use and overlay, but you have to compile a dt-blob.bin file as stated in the official camera doc for CM. This is my working DT. Moreover it works with DPI18 overlay and UART1 overlay applied in config.txt. What's interest...

Re: RPI CM3 Dual Camera Not Working Any Help?

Hi, I've just managed to get one camera connected to a breakout board of a CM3+ to work, so I hope to share something I've learned: 1) you have enabled cameras correctly, 2) but to have my camera recognized I had to enable I2C in raspi config, or at least this made it work. Try this? Check your DTS ...

Hello, I am struggling with the same doubt. I've tried reducing the device tree in the Camera documentation for CM, but I cannot load it using `overlay` command. Reading somewhere in this forum I found one user that says that camera PINs and defines need to be defined in the main device tree blob. T...

Re: rpiboot stuck on Waiting for BCM2835/6/7/2711..

Hi, I have a Mac, but have you tried pluggin the cable after launching `rpiboot.exe`. I have sometimes similar problems and it usually works. Unplugging and plugging a few times I mean.. Then I had very serious problems, but they were ultimately due to a USB cable not being a data cable but just a c...

problems OTG mode and dwc2,g_ether on CM3+ with breakout board

Hello, I have a CM3+ and a breakout board of all the pins from Gumstix. So I don't have the CMIO board since I need raw access to several pins and I need my special connectors. I've cloned a card I use on a PiZeroW and it works. Now I can have a DPI screen and a UART console on UART1 on the Compute ...

Re: Internet on Compute Module 3 via USB Hub with ethernet

Hi, regarding the fixed IP i don't know if it can help, but on my Mac I've managed to have the USB RNDIS Gadget stay fixed between reboot (on a Pi Zero) by setting in cmdline.txt modules-load=dwc2,g_ether g_ether host__ addr=02:1d:fc:34:41:83 dev_addr=ee:d4:24:e3:60:8f I think almost any value can w...

Boom! :o I don't know how and why.. but using `minicom` from another Pi with crossed TX/RX as instructed by PhilE works. I can now confirm and close the issue. minicom works on /dev/ttyS0 no hardware flow control yes software flow control 115200 bps 8N1 or screen /dev/ttyS0 115200 I can even connect...

Re: startup errors (and mangled console) when using UART0 on different pins and no output on UART1

If you have a second Pi (and it sounds like you do) you can eliminate the cable by connecting patch cables between the Pis - TX to RX, RX to TX and GND to GND (!). On the "client" Pi remove "tty=serial0,115200" from cmdline.txt (or change it to xtty=... to disable it), and run m...

Mh.. ok now I have a cable that I confirm works on a Zero, I could also blindly login and do a `ls -l`.. it's as though something little is still missing :) Screenshot 2020-05-13 at 18.43.21.jpg I can also see ANSI escape sequences uninterpreted (if I am correct) and it misses some \n \r :) Thanks f...

Re: startup errors (and mangled console) when using UART0 on different pins and no output on UART1

Ok.. sorry for bothering.

PhilE did the trick (almost). Setting ground (don't knowwhy i thought it would work without.. ) made things a way better!

Now I have to tweak a little bit. Maybe restore speed to 115200.
Thanks!

trejan, thanks. I will enquire on how to disable the magic SysReq. You never stop learning, and I'm in the trade since the mid 80s.. but it's a bit difficult. I have to mount the CM on a Linux VM or other raspberry. Takes me a while to find how. PhilE, thanks to you too. The cable is tested on every...

[SOLVED] startup errors (and mangled console) when using UART0 on different pins and no output on UART1

Hi, i've bought a CM3+ and now I'm trying to access it via Console once it has booted, but I need to remap UART0 (or use UART1) because pins 14 and 15 are taken by a DPI screen that I've hooked up. I am using a breakout board from Gumstix that exposes every GPIO pins btw. The idea is to have a USB-t...

Re: how to mount again Compute Module eMMC with a Gumstix Flash Board?

Well, I'm wondering why the barrel jack is there.. :) Anyway the engineer from Gumstix answered and says just so. THe 5V power is not needed and the circuitry just pevents the module from reading the eMMC always (so that's as we expected!). After changing many cables and ports on my mac I can have i...

Re: how to mount again Compute Module eMMC with a Gumstix Flash Board?

At the moment it seems that connecting ONLY the USB cable has sorted some good effect.. so no 5V power source connected, just the microUSB. since `rpiboot` was running and hung since yesterday, as soon as I connected the board with just the microUSB connected, miracle! I can see the `boot` partition!

Re: how to mount again Compute Module eMMC with a Gumstix Flash Board?

Hello, the UART should be enabled on the second, bigger, breakout board, but I can't manage to make it work (i've written to Gumstix also regarding this issue..). What I wanted to do was to enable a second UART (since the standard 1st uart pins are occupied by DPI output) and this implied changing t...

Re: how to mount again Compute Module eMMC with a Gumstix Flash Board?

Hi Trejan, I was aware of the trick, but in reality I don't know if it is correct for my use case. I see some MosFETS on the board that could do the thing you quote on your second paragraph, to access the eMMC as an external drive over USB, but even if they were there for that purpose, I don't know ...

[SOLVED] how to mount again Compute Module eMMC with a Gumstix Flash Board?

Hello, I have bought a CM3+ 8GB (not Lite) for my ongoing project with a DPI screen. Since I am designing a carrier board with all the required peripherals, prior to this I wanted to test every subcomponent, and so decided to buy a board to test the CM. The official IO Board does not fill my bill, s...

Just to close the topic, should someone stumble upon this thread, as confirmed by aBUGSworstnightmare, it's a DPI display at it works as expected, after struggling with the config.txt parameters.

The whole story is here in basic testing of DPI interface

Happy tinkering
