If I run software update will that overwrite my config.txt and rc.local files etc?

In vi I use ":wq" ':' to enter command mode 'w' to write the file 'q' to exit vi. Please more info as I am a novice and not sure of the procedure. I opened the file using sudo, and entered the lines, but whatever I try to save nothing. Did you try typing :wq ? The letters : then w then q one after ...

I had to add two lines to a file but can't save.

I installed an auto shutdown board, and had to add two lines to "sudo vim.tiny /etc/rc.local" I was able to edit the file but can't figure out how to save my edit. I tried Ctrl>W to save and exit it did nothing I opened the file in Terminal. I tried Ctrl>O no luck either. Any help would be greatly a...

OK opened it, but found the two lines that were missing the # signs in fron of syz. Saved it but here is why I think my board is bad. on line 68 it should say 68 but it says UU. That is in the test by typing" sudo i2cdetect -y 1 (if using v2 Raspberry Pi)"

I opened the file hwclock-set and modified what didn't have the # sign. but it would not let me save it. How do I save it? Can it be opened from terminal, if s please give me the sudo command. thanks.

I am new to this, please give me more info about this. I get into the config file using sudo raspi-config but my 5 is enable camera. I don't see interface options.

If I use the code and the keyboard opens, it then locks up the screen, only terminal works file manager does not.

I am trying to install the matchbox keyboard and I get this error. subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
libpam-chksshpwd:armf

I got to install it now used a friends PC. Now I am trying to get my Real Time Clock card to work. When it is plugged in the screen goes black. Any ideas on that? This is the card.
