Re: Should I buy 8Gb Model

Got the e-mail from Pi Hut this morning and ordered straight away (even thought I got another two Pi 4 2GB's yesterday :D ). So that makes a total of 6 2GB models (5 running [email protected] and another running Kodi), 2 4GB models (including my soon to replaced desktop Pi and another one running Transmi...

Re: Get your Pi to fight COVID-19

Just an update on my set-up, I've now got two RPI 4 2GB's running [email protected] 24/7, another 4B 2GB splitting it's crunching time between [email protected] and [email protected]. I've attached a pic to show you of my Boinc Cluster-Pi (sorry in advance for the for the name :D ). There's two 80mm fan blowing ...

Re: Get your Pi to fight COVID-19

@bensimmo

Both Pi's are just running [email protected] and are currently running 3 jobs at a time (although they'll happily run 4 jobs).

Also, I totally forgot about the preference settings (I've checked and they're set to 8 hrs - I might drop them down a bit and see how it goes).

Re: Get your Pi to fight COVID-19

@ejolson Yep - CPU does get hotter - but both Pi's have decent cooling (one is in an two piece aluminium heatsink case and the other has a large heatsink on and I've got a 80mm case fan slowly blowing air over both cases) - but even overclocked neither of them go above 60 degrees C (in fact the heat...

Re: Get your Pi to fight COVID-19

I ran BOINC on two different Pi 4's, one at stock speed and the other one overclocked to 1950 Mhz on two Pi 4's and the Average processing rate (for example) went from approx 2.15 GFLOPS on the stock speed Pi and approx. 2.90 GFLOPS (I did get a peak 3.01 GLOPS at one point) on the overclock Pi. It'...

Re: Get your Pi to fight COVID-19

I used the following guide (see link below) to get [email protected] working on two of pi 4's (2GB & 4GB) - works like a charm. I've also got two Pi 3B's ready to go once I've got new SD cards for them (on order). FYI overclocking the Pi 4 does make a difference when running BOINC. https://www.reddit.co...

Re: Raspberry Pi 4 as a primary desktop computer?

I've actually seen the same thing happen on my Chromebook when I'm on youtube - so it's not just the Pi's (and I've seen it on my Pi 4 as well).

New Raspberry Pi 4 Cases

Hi All, It's been a long time (over 5 years) since I last designed the Multi-pi stacking case and with having two new Raspberry Pi 4's I decided to break out my design skills once again... So please let me introduce my brand new Raspberry Pi 4 cases (see attached images). They've got lots of air ven...

Re: Pi4 Network issues

One last update for the day - I've managed to work around this problem by plugging in a usb ethernet adaptor and I've now got a stable network connection that survives shutdowns and reboots every time. This, I believe points to either a driver/firmware issue, or in the worse case a faulty on-board n...

Re: Pi4 Network issues

I've set a static IP via the router (and changed dhcpcd.conf accordingly) and though the network connection appears to survive a reboot it needs me to run 'sudo mii-tool -r eth0' (several times) before I can get a working network if I power the rpi up from a shutdown.

Just re-ran 'sudo mii-tool -r eth0' on the Pi4 (locally) and the results are as follow sudo systemctl status dhcpcd Jun 29 19:55:43 raspberrypi4 dhcpcd[472]: eth0: carrier lost Jun 29 19:55:43 raspberrypi4 dhcpcd[472]: eth0: deleting route to 192.168.1.0/24 Jun 29 19:55:43 raspb...

Several successful reboots via ssh and then no connection to the Pi4 but I can still ping it...

Curious indeed...

Re: Pi4 Network issues

@incognitum

I didn't notice the time taken - interesting.

I'm in the process of rebooting the Pi4 remotely and will see if the dhcp tweak helps things.

I'll post the results of my tests.

Re: Pi4 Network issues

@pcmanbob Turns out my router was dishing out IP addresses (192.168.1.65 - 192.168.1.253) that clashed with the static IP address (192.168.1.100) so I've changed the dhcp range to 192.168.1.200 - 192.168.1.253. I've got quite a few RPi's with static IP's that were in the original dhcp range that hav...

Re: Pi4 Network issues

This is a weird problem because I ssh'd into the Pi4 and rebooted it 10 times and the network worked as expected, but the 11th time resulted in no outgoing or incoming connection - however I could ping the Pi4 from my Chromebook but couldn't ssh into it. Tried 'sudo mii-tool -r eth0' to no avail - p...

Re: Pi4 Network issues

Spoke too soon - same problem (After several successful restarts) couldn't connect to the the network until I rebooted another two times..

I still think this could be software/firmware issue but I could be wrong, any other ideas to the cause of this problem?
