Understand a few things: 1) If I were going to do this, I'd just compile it from source, so this isn't specifically a personal need for me. Version 0.5.11 is in the Testing Stretch Release of Debian So, to answer OP's question (and save him and us all the bother of getting the source code and compiling it ourselves), is it possible to add something to the sources file to get that version installed via apt-get? if so, please explain how...

You can, if you work at it, disable the gettys on the virtual terminals, but you can't stop them from switching to them (via the indicated key sequence). So, it becomes a question of whether you're really going for aesthetics, or just "security". if you delete the above mentioned file then you will...
