One core will be your 5v, the other is your signal line, the ground will be the braid.

Perhaps filter everything above 10Hz... So perhaps a resistor of 160 ohm and a cap of 100uf. Put the RC filter in the aluminium box with the arduino.

A ground Shielded cable between the arduino and the sensor will reduce the noise on the line. I would also use a simple RC low pass filter to reject all the HF produced by the engine.
