Re: Boot from USB stick?

Actually Joes version will replace mmcblk0 to sda and mmcblk0p2 to sda2 in one line. It will also replace mmcblk0p1 to sda1 and so on.

Re: ALSA on Raspbian

@wildehobbs
What distribution are you using? What is the program you are running? What is the output of "aplay -l" and "aplay -L" ? Do you have /etc/asound.conf or ~/.asoundrc files? If so, what is it's content?

Re: ALSA on Raspbian

VC handles arbitrary samplerates. For analogue audio, it just sets the PWM clock to a multiple of the samplerate. For HDMI it software resamples (by GPU) to the nearest supported samplerate. Are you seeing the problem on HDMI or analogue? I only have DVI monitor so I'm using analogue output. I did ...

Re: SEVERE bug in sound driver

That explains the issue with omxplayer. I did check the problem with mplayer on my system and I can confirm that I do have the same issue. No matter what value the volume is set to, music is loud. I have to go to alsamixer and change the value a little and the volume instantly changes to the proper ...

Re: Kernel boot requirements

So you are creating your own bootloader (another stage) right? I may be wrong about what I'm saing above but maybe this will help you somehow. As far as I know, r2 should point to an address of ATAGS, that in case of RPi is 0x100. At least in new firmware files. And If you don't relocate ATAG list, ...

Re: Lockups on CPU/eth0 load

I would start by moving to the new raspian based distro to check if there is any difference. And I would also try:

Code: Select all

sysctl vm.min_free_kbytes=16384
Maybe this will help.

Re: Raspbian issues

First of all, using proper video player, you get hardware accelerated decoding. This is why it is possible to get 1080p video. While there is no graphics acceleration in X server, you should not get so bad results. Of course everybody has different expectations but the system should be at least usab...

I find mailing lists more handy too, so +1 from me. But i believe it would have to be official one and used by main developers to make sense.

Indeed, there is no hardware accelerated graphics driver for X yet. What exactly do you mean by "no sound"? You have to be more specific.

Re: ALSA on Raspbian

@Dom I suspect that it is indeed VC problem. When playing audio with low sample rate, it hangs on bcm2835_audio_write -> vchi_bulk_queue_transmit ->ioctl(VCHIQ_IOC_QUEUE_BULK_TRANSMIT) ->vchiq_ioctl -> vchiq_bulk_transfer -> vcos_event_wait -> down_interruptible() Now, if I understand correctly, sin...

Re: Sound problems with new image

mplayer: doesn't work, reports problem with alsa. vlc: doesn't work with bcm2835, but on plugging in a creative soundblaster mp3+ usb card and making it the output device, vlc works beautifully with sound files. For mplayer and VLC try putting this to .asoundrc file in your home directory (or /etc/...

Re: Sound problems with new image

Getting sound on analog out is a little easier and there is less things that can be wrong so i suggest to first try getting sound working on analog, then on HDMI. You can select audio output using: sudo amixer cset numid=3 N Where N : 0=auto, 1=analog, 2=hdmi. And of course, check alsamixer to see i...

Also, I would like to know if you are getting any error messages from xine (please run it from terminal). It is also important for me to know if your sound is being played by a player but you can't hear it or it is not even played due to some error.

Re: Sound problems with new image

I believe, there is no difference if you use snd_bcm2835 or snd-bcm2835, they both should work. You can easily check if the modules where loaded using lsmod command, it should list snd-bcm2835 among other things. Is it loaded? And what exactly do you mean by "get sound working"? How do you try to pl...

Re: ALSA on Raspbian

Ok, so I decided to first debug Efcis problems, so far I have found that: 1. I can reproduce the problem using plughw plugin, not yet tried directly using hw. 2. After it fails, ALSA driver hangs on bcm2835_audio_set_ctls_chan function(), waiting on vcos_event_wait(&instance->msg_avail_event), which...

Re: USB and LAN is dead

LAN and USB are connected the same way to the SoC, they are both connected to internal USB. So unfortunately it is possible that they both broke for the same reason. What is the output of your lsusb command? Do you have eth0 interface in your system or it is gone?
