Re: What is the best internet browser experience ?

For the best browsing experience, use a machine that is more powerful. Seriously, the Pi is a lousy machine for web browsing. That is true. Today's web pages are not designed to work fine on such a small device as Rpi. Even using some older computers/laptops (which are couple times faster than Rpi)...

Re: OMXPlayer deb packages for Raspbian

You will get the same error if omxplayer.bin has some unresolved library problems. In such situations you can check if it's the case by calling: ldd /usr/bin/omxplayer.bin Or you can also call omxplayer.bin directly and check if you won't get something like this: [email protected]:~$ omxplayer.bin omxplayer....

Re: Replacement memcpy

I did some more tests and it seems that previous results are not reliable. I'm getting the same results with and without the library now (I can see the same difference in numbers between two runs of without this library than I posted previously). I guess what teh_orph said explains why. So, any idea...

Re: Replacement memcpy

I did some tests with x11perf by running it like this: x11perf -resize -uresize -popup -move -umove The results are strange. It seems that using replacement library i got WORSE results than without it. For example: WITH: 200000 trep @ 0.1688 msec ( 5920.0/sec): Resize unmapped window (200 kids) WITH...

Re: Replacement memcpy

If anyone wants to test this: echo /home/pi/libcofi_rpi.so | sudo tee /etc/ld.so.preload Just did that on resbian, verified that it works by: $ ps aux | grep /usr/bin/X root 1627 14.4 10.2 42308 22916 tty7 Rs+ Jul01 1:59 /usr/bin/X -nolisten tcp :0 -auth /tmp/serverauth.3F5LrCukfa $ sudo cat /proc/...

Re: What is the best internet browser experience ?

I'm using Midori on Raspbian and it's very acceptable. I changed browser settings to identify as iPhone so some pages displays mobile version which is much more lightweight (also it's not necessary). It supports tabs (with closing undo), userstyles (very handy for browsing this forum) and remembers ...

Re: UART serial console login?

console=ttyAMA0,115200 enables sending kernel messages to gpio serial. It should be in /boot/cmdline.txt by default. It won't let you login, though. Your findings about getty are correct. You should put this line in /etc/inittab:

Code: Select all

T0:23:respawn:/sbin/getty -L ttyAMA0 115200 vt100

Re: Forum: Please underline links

This issue is discussed in many threads, mostly in "forum glitches" where I think this post belong to. I hope it will be fixed soon but for a workaround you can check my post: viewtopic.php?p=108986#p108986 At the end you will find some code for stylish extension. It is working for Firefox, Chromium...

Re: No easy way to spot "unread" forums

I would like to bump this post since I do have the same issues. I even installed stylish firefox extension and wrote custom script that fixes this 2 issues. The problem is that I very often read forum from my phone and I don't have anything like stylish there. It would be great if admin could add tw...

Re: New forum request

Yes, then someone will come along and explain to me what GNU means in the "An ARM GNU/Linux box for $25. Take a byte!" without me having to ask and look like a compleat twat. :? For this, just take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU/Linux_naming_controversy . In short - it's because operati...

Re: Worrying HDMI problem (with youtube)

I guess you could try with different hdmi_mode values. Maybe forcing some resolution (like 1080p) will work. The list is on http://elinux.org/RPi_config.txt

Re: A plea to the Foundation re. MPEG-2

Please correct me if I'm wrong but the licence is acually needed only because of patents issues. If so, then it only applies to the countries where software can be patented. So, for example it should not be a legal problem to sell RPi in EU (and many other countries) with MPEG2 decoding, without pay...
