Re: I am rubbish, need new brain

There are three states to a project:

Haven't Started = A Challenge
Complete Fubar = An experience
Successful Completion = Blind luck

May you have lots of luck with your next project :)

Re: Internal Wifi and Cellular

Hi,

The latest RPi3 has wi-fi built in so you don't need a dongle - I'm not sure about cellular boards.

Explorer pHat with Pi Zero

Hi All, Has anyone tried out the Zero with the Explorer pHat - I've got it all wired up and booting Pixel - but all the docs are for the Explorer Hat which has completely different hardware/connectors - I really don't want to fry it on my first attempt - does anyone have any links to a get started v...

Hi all, Just posted my next video of Getting Started With Python for Raspberry Pi - pass it on if you know someone who needs it :) More to follow (another 4 episodes) - I've just recorded a video for getting started with the SenseHat - if anyone has any subjects that they think would be good to be v...

Re: Zero Rebooting

Hmm - I'm using official PS and same USB devices (mouse/keyboard) that I use on the 3B - so I tried wiggling the connectors but that didn't re-boot and it doesn't seem to do it every time - I'll keep an eye on it and see if I can get any better fix on what is causing it - cheers Dougie :)

Zero Rebooting

Hi all, I'm playing with a zero and Explorer pHat and I have found that if I change some USB or HDMI devices - ie unplug or plug in - it reboots - this doesn't happen on my Pi3B - has anyone else had this and is it expected - it's not a problem if it is, just curious if zeros always do this? Cheers ...

Re: Raspberry pi as classroom/lab assistant

Hi, To set up RPi as a Wifi hotspot you will need one of these : https://learn.adafruit.com/setting-up-a-raspberry-pi-as-a-wifi-access-point/overview Then set up the RPi as an FTP server : https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/remote-access/ftp.md The web server will need a list of files uploade...

Re: High idle temperature ?

It's a little high - I'm running Kodi on a 3B - LAN,USB but no case and no heatsink - 1% cpu and the temp is constant 42. Try taking it out of the box and see if that makes a difference - if it does you have a heat collection prob and need a fan of some sort and holes in the case - but this should n...

Re: USB insert/removal

Most operating systems (maybe all modern ones) like to have mounted disks unmounted before removal in case there are any background tasks interacting with it - however the only time I have ever had a problem with removal of a usb drive was taking it out just as the copy process (in windows) finished...

Re: Can'r Enable VNC

I'm assuming you are running Pixel (I've just swapped my Pixel card into my Pi3 - my version has VNC available) - so I'm guessing that your networking is not starting properly - Do you have anything plugged into the Pi that might cause this?

Re: Can'r Enable VNC

I installed Tight VNC http://www.tightvnc.com/ on my Pi and it works like a dream - but Pixel has Real VNC built in.

Re: Image manipulation like paint.net for raspbian jessie?

Hi Merlinuwe,

You should be able to install Pinta with sudo apt-get install pinta - I have just tried it on Raspian (pre-pixel) and it works.

Re: Several questions about the Raspberry pi (3)

-Can the rpi 3 change the video output type (PAL, NTSC) at runtime? The HDMI output is digital and the monitor type and resolution is detected at boot time -Is the RAM shared with the GPU? Yes -Does the in-built wifi suport 5ghz connections? No - only 2.4Ghz to my knowledge Hope that helps some more...

Re: Simple question for simple answer (temp related)

A normal heatsink will probably work (if it fits) - thermal paste will probably not be suitable if it is mounted sideways - the Pi heatsinks are supplied with thermal tape which will hold it on better - https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/heatsink - for the case, if you are worried about excess heat ...

Re: Simple question for simple answer (temp related)

Hi - I have been running my RPi3b pretty much continuously encased in a ninja case from Pimoroni - I have only noticed it warming up at all when running intensive jobs such as video on youtube - under normal conditions - desktop/python console or static(ish) webpages it seems fine - unless you are p...
