and what would you like to do with the stream without X?
One option is filesink, another is fakesink, and there are many more.

Raspberry NoIR trajectory of insect flying in garden @night

Before coming to the subject let me show some commands that might be trivial for some, but may be helpful for many. I had to google a lot to find all these at least. First, capturing video with "raspivid" generates .h264 video. Until yesterday I uploaded such videos to youtube and used makeagif.com ...

In addition to what topguy wrote, if you camera is available under "/dev/video0", then "fswebcam test.jpg" is all that is needed to take a photo.

Re: Multiple camers

I cannot comment on audio, did not do that sofar, but I read its possible. You cannot get audio from Raspberry camera connected to camera connector. But otherwise you can connect as many cameras as you have USB ports. I did that with 3 USB cameras without issues using Pimoroni three port USB hub wit...

Re: camera_slave.c

I used the code from sunfounder.com and reduced the reads to x-direction only. But that code is not good: inline int adxl345_read_x(int fd) { char x0, x1; x0 = 0xff - wiringPiI2CReadReg8(fd, 0x32); x1 = 0xff - wiringPiI2CReadReg8(fd, 0x33); return (int)(x1 << 8) + (int)x0; } The first issue is that ...

I added an adxl345 accelerometer to the caterpillar robot. Because I wanted to store many measurements I connected that sensor to the Pi Zero W, and not to the Arduino Uno: https://stamm-wilbrandt.de/en/forum/IMG_20170516_232017.jpg Below you can find modified "camera_slave_adxl345.c" which does ras...

Re: Pi NoIR Camera with two 3W Infrared LEDs needs power

Thanks for the explanations. I have never noticed the 3W LED(s) getting hot. And I have not seen any advantage of using two 3W infrared LEDs, therefore I mounted only one with NoIR camera on caterpillar robot. https://stamm-wilbrandt.de/en/forum/IMG_20170512_204630.jpg NoIR wireless video streaming ...

Re: Minimal gstreamer raspivid pipeline?

Thanks for this option listing. I tried to tell gstreamer about h264 format, and was partially successful -- I was able to play a raspivid video file with gstreamer. But I was not able to make it work with "raspistill ... -o - | gst-launch-1.0 -v fdsrc ...". Then I tried "sudo modprobe bcm2835-v4l2"...

Re: Cheap [Arduino] pan/tilt system for Raspberry camera

Hi, I bought a 1$ PCF8591 A/D I2C bus module, but have not used it sofar. The ATTiny85 does cost 1$ as well, and is a complete microcontroller. So you can do it either way, and have 5$ in total pan/tilt system for the Raspberry camera. Hermann. P.S: I use a tilt only system on my caterpillar robot p...

Pi NoIR Camera with two 3W Infrared LEDs needs power

I got a NoIR camera today, had two 3W Infrared LEDs for direct mounting already. I started with daylight and two LEDs mounted to NoIR camera, at Pi Zero with USB2ethernet adapter. "raspistill -t 0 ..." showed nice video on HDMI monitor. Then, when closing the shutter, Pi Zero did reset (the 3W LEDs ...

Re: Increasing the rate of image capture? [picamera]

I have to learn myself how to do that, but what you want to do (better than 0.07s per frame) should be doable this way:
  • raspividyuv -w 640 -h 480 -fps 90 ... -o -
  • pipe that into a gstreamer pipeline
  • write gstreamer plugin that acts on single frames
90fps is 0.011s per frame.

Re: 10 Segment LED bar?

You can use ICs to drive the bar graph.
But eg. Pi Zero has 26 GPIOs.
If 6 GPIOs are enough for other stuff you need to interface with, you could just use 20 Pi GPIOs to drive 20 LEDs.

The cheapest USB camera working fine with Raspberry Pi Zero is this 2$ camera: https://stamm-wilbrandt.de/en/forum/IMG_20160926_210314.jpg It states that it is a 5M camera, but that is fake, it is 640x480 0.3M VGA camera, that can take videos @30fps.
