Re: fstrim compatible SD cards

Doesn't ext4 have the discard option enabled by default nowadays? (In which case it should already sent those commands when files are deleted, and running fstrim separately should not be necessary). not sure about this but i guess it will have the same effect of fstrim i.e. it might not work. the E...

Re: fstrim compatible SD cards

As you found out, fstrim issues CMD38 ERASE to SD card devices. This limits write-amplification in Flash memory. You can verify that trim works with: $ sudo fstrim / --verbose /: 17,1 GiB (18311340032 bytes) trimmed You should get an output similar to the one above. You can then start the fstrim.ti...

fstrim compatible SD cards

Hi, I'm trying to search for a compatible SD card that support fstrim. based on many threads and github issues, it seems that the backed SD protocol commands for fstrim is: CMD32 / CMD33 / CMD38 quick search and i found kingston SDCIT/64GB is supporting these commands: https://www.kingston.com/datas...

Re: Best Raspberry Pi Alternatives 2019

Im my case i managed to get 140ms glass to glass latency with the max resolution 3280x2464 with 21fps on newer codec h265. They have very tight integration with gstreamer.

Re: Best Raspberry Pi Alternatives 2019

I believe that Raspberry is leading the generic tinkering boards with very few alternatives in the market as a second choice.
But once you have a use case and you are willing to pay little bit more, you can find better options out there e.g. GPU and camera system.

I will share my experience as well, i have been facing all kinds of crashes using the camera and opencv. I tried alomost everything but the processor is just weak enough. Re: java is not supported any more on Pi0 with OS buster

problem is solved. OpenJDK 11 is available for Pi0 armv6 from zulu: https://www.azul.com/downloads/zulu-embedded/ it works out of the box. i need to test its performance against oracle jdk8, but initially it works. i tried as well adoptopenjdk without success. in addition, bell-sw.com has also a rel...

Re: cover options for Pi 3A+ case

For both the RPi 3 series and RPi 4 series I would say just use a stand, that holds the board in a vertical orientation and only contacts at one edge, giving enough space between the board and bottom of the RPi and the bottom of the stand to allow for good air flow. It is easy to throw a design tog...

Re: cover options for Pi 3A+ / Pi4 case

I'm raising my voice again here on this request, but now for Pi4. it makes sense to have a custom cover for the official case to support the camera out of the box with custom cable. Adding PoE hat inside the case (with suitable design for its fan) with the camera makes it more convenient as a home c...

OK, this is surprising, the OS team adopted the new java 11 in buster as the default java but it is not supported anymore in the old armv6 (pi0). this is like discontinuing java totally for Pi zero the topic is been discussed previously in: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=196887 ...

Re: Why are Raspberry Pi still using Java 8 when Java 11 is available?

Probably java 8 will remain the main jdk for quite long time. Pi0 is armv6 and java 8 is the last working version on this platform. I'll admit I haven't checked, but I'd be very surprised if openjdk 11 didn't work on a pi 0. we already killed this topic here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/view...
