Re: duckdns on pi installation problems

I don't think there will be too many worries sending it by PM, I know its not 100% secure but it isn't that useful if it was compromised. If you prefer, I have a website link next to the PM button under my avatar, under the 'contact us' link is an email address. I'll be back later in the afternoon. ...

There'll be a fair number in the hands of losers like me, who have bought every version of the Pi since day one....

Anyone interested in selling their 256MB Revision 1 Pi 'B' with the zero ohm resistors in lieu of USB polyfuses so I can complete my collection ? :)

If its any consolation, the other dynamic DNS services have similar or even more complicated hoops to jump through. I like duckdns because its the simplest and easiest I've found.

I can't give you a very simple explanation because I don't know exactly how you are attempting to achieve writing this duck.sh file. You can do it from the command line from a terminal within the GUI, or via numerous remote control options from another machine entirely. I've an idea, how about you c...

Re: Upgrading Raspbian for version 2

Personally I wouldn't trust rpi-update as far as I could throw it, used it too many times over the approaching 3 years I've been involved in the Pi. Not once has it achieved anything, but several times its broken stuff. Way back in the old days it was safely hidden away on github, then some spark de...

If theres the slightest doubt about the validity of the second SD card, I'd be checking to see if its a fake. 32GB is a good size for fakes.

Re: Clone Rpi B+ to Rpi2 B+

2 different SD cards of nominally the same type and size are often different sizes in reality. Cloning a slightly larger card onto a slighlty smaller card will often cause problems. There are numerous solutions, the way I'd do it is stick the original in another linux computer before you clone it an...

Re: How much does actually Pi 2 cost?

I presently have 7 Pis running in my house (only 1 is a Pi2) , none of them have a monitor keyboard or mouse connected.

What's Linaro ? I certainly don't have it.

You can get a headless Pi running for about a tenner (£10/$15) over the cost of the Pi itself.

Re: Raspberry Pi 2 : Raspbian Armv6 or Debian ARMv7?

If you update any old raspbian with the old apt-get update/upgrade routine it will work on a Pi2, once you've done it it will also run on an old Pi. The new Armv7 will run the v6 code, there are minor differences in how the 2 systems boot.

Re: Help with my honeypot

So how do I configure my router? Do I need port forwarding? There are no instructions about configuring your router. Thats up to the individual router, typically you log into the router with its IP address from a browser and configure port forwarding in there. They are pretty much all different. It...

It probably wouldn't work on a B+ either since the SD slot is in exactly the same place on a Pi2.

Do you understand 'cut and paste' ? It the action of cutting (or more accurately copying) to the clipboard and then pasting it into another application. It works exactly the same in Linux as it does in Windows. A nice easy method of copying a complex command into a text editor or something. The line...

Cutting and pasting is the way to go, the curl command is very easy to get wrong if you're writing it by hand. Looking back through how I did mine, I just put the line from duck.sh in another shell script I was running periodically from cron anyway. echo url="https://www.duckdns.org/update?domains=p...

Re: Will Pi B/B+ components work on a Pi 2?

Some of these screens are dependant on specially written kernels/images to work. Because of the differing GPIO addresses such a specially written kernel probably won't work with a Pi2. The usual USB stuff will almost certainly work with a Pi2

Sound about right for an A or A+, Many of the devices I use on my other Pis don't work through a hub on an A/A+ . It varies by which hub I use too. I use a B, B+ or Pi2 where I want more than 1 USB device.

Its a 1970's engine, you can take liberties with something so old. ;)

if you cleaned the paint and grease off it stuck the sensor on it and then put a lick of paint over it you'd never see it, especially if it was behind/under the injector pump or something.

Re: Fun with underclocking

Might draw a bit less power when underclocking, too. Probably not enough to measure. It doesn't work like a PC. It will use marginally less for a much longer period, so you don't really gain. The Pis processor is very good at using next to nothing when its idling, and not a huge amount more when it...

Re: Trouble booting led blinking 8 times (read sticky)

NIC lead is Network Interface Controller lead aka an Ethernet lead. Plugs in next to the 4 USB ports. Have you tried another Micro-USB lead ?. Its as least as important as the power supply. Thin cables, high voltage drop, Pi doesn't want to play. Short and fat is what you want. Measuring the voltage...
