Turn on/off USB ports/hub

My current project has 2 USB cameras with infrared. It works fine until I turn the lights out and the power draw crashes the raspberry pi. Only one of the cameras needs to be working at any given time. Also I am running this off solar panel and battery so ideally I'd just shut them both off until I ...

Re: Higher powered IR webcam reccomendations

Awesome thanks for the replies. I will will buy one of those IR lights just to try and see if that'll work for what I am trying to do!

The first question, do people use IR for cameras during the day? Seems like it wouldn't make much sense..

Higher powered IR webcam reccomendations

Re: RPi File Transfer Solution

Until I was reading on this forum just a bit ago I didn't know we could turn the units into access points so I was surprised when I seen that. I will definitely look into this more. Looking here: http://raspi.tv/2014/pihut-wifi-dongle-vs-edimax-power-usage it shows that it only uses 40-70mA so thats...

RPi File Transfer Solution

First off I am new to the forums so hopefully this is going in the correct place! I see there is a networking/server forum but couldn't decide if it fit there or not. So to my question: I am looking for some advice on how to handle something. I have 30 rpi2s/camera setups in lets say in a 5 square m...
