Re: Red LED on Faint Green LED

For me it worked by only replacing the files from Github boot into the boot partition

Re: Red LED on Faint Green LED

The download image does not include the latest firmware. I have used it but to make it work on all cards I replaced the firmware files with newer firmware files from github.

Re: Red LED on Faint Green LED

Confirm. Both my card that never booted and I made a RMA to Farnell are working now without problems with the new firmware . So my idea that something is wrong on the hardware was confirmed. But now I have the only Raspi without 33 ohm resistors.

Re: Red LED on Faint Green LED

No other tests for using pull-ups were done yet ? I was feeling that the issue of using only some cards was important to the developers. Some let say official tests ?

Re: Red LED on Faint Green LED

I am pretty sure that the solution is there , in the connection of SD card. Your solution for testing is accessible to many users that have soldering skills and a good solder iron. The space is enough there to put also some SMD but has to connect all to 3.3 V that is not so easy .

Re: Red LED on Faint Green LED

Now we have to wait for someone else to test. I don't think that I will be able to test before next week. But my feelings were confirmed that is a hardware matter, even the hardware is minimal here. Has to be reconsidered the schematics. Might be a good idea to post a picture of your pullups install...

You have keeped the 33ohm resistors? On which side you connected the pull-ups ? Card or CPU ?

Re: Red LED on Faint Green LED

I can confirm your cooling tests. I was able to boot a never booting card with the new firmware "raspberrypi-firmware-51840bd " AND cooling the processor with liquid propane. I was able to boot three times. The temperature has not to be very low . I am cooling it up to propane ice is over the proces...

Re: Red LED on Faint Green LED

It is indeed a question if Pi uses spi mode or sd card mode. I think it is using sd card mode . I also was thinking about some pull ups . In this moment I am not able to make some tests anymore since I am leaving for one week to a project abroad. Maybe some other can test some pull-ups as recommende...

Re: Red LED on Faint Green LED

It is clear for me that the problem lies into thi Pi. On the behavior I was thinking that the problem might be hardware so form my experience the series resistors between processor and sd card socket of 32 ohm sometimes are to high for SPI so I tried to put some 10 ohms in parallel . Since my 10 ohm...

Re: Red LED on Faint Green LED

With some cards even in "approved" list ( Sandisk 4GB) nothing helped for me. Written in linux or windows, different sd card writer, firmware update without results. The only possibility for me was not to use in raspberry pi anymore. Otherwise the card passed all tests

Re: Red LED on Faint Green LED

And a Sandisk 4GB SDHC class 4 is not working. I think that is a big problem with card compatiblity on Raspberry Pi. I never heard on any device such photo camera, camera, computers , card readers such a problem of SD compatibility . Something is wrong in the routine of SD card access that I think t...

Re: Red LED on Faint Green LED

Finally I was able to boot the Raspi from a Hama 2Gb card that is not a SDHC card written under Linux . From cards from the working card list I was not able to boot. The working card is quite a noname card and a bit to small so dd issued some errors. I will try also with the Raspi that will come fro...

Re: Red LED on Faint Green LED

Some more measurements :

voltage on C6 5,219 V
voltage on C11 3.299V
voltage on C15 2.499V
voltage on C9 1,823V

so the power supply is working good. Should I try another SD card ?

I also have discussed with Farnell and they can replace it by RMA . But I want to be sure that the board is defective and is not my mistake .

Also mine. I tried now also with archlinux. The same reaction. Nothing is hot on the board. Processor feels like a bit warm. Disconnected everything from USB , Ethernet, HDMI and the same. What should I test more ?
