Hmm. Is your SD card genuine and working ok? Can you test with another card?

L2 vs L3... iptables only deals with IP, not with ARP.

Re: Trying to figure out if my RPi zero w is defective. Having reboots, segfaults, kernel panics, etc.

Roll back to the system that worked on this Pi, not to a never tested one. If that one fails, and you swapped PSU, SD and all accessories, then I think the conclusion would be that for some reason a hardware fault developed... The OOM killer is a feature of the kernel, to keep the system alive it sl...

You need to set Internet Connection Sharing on the laptop for the Pi to access the Internet through it.

Re: how to copy 1 external SD to another external SD?

Well then I suppose the GUI tool you’re using has an option to save an SD as an image on the file system.
Plug your SD, save as file, unplug, plug the other one, restore from file to the SD.
Do not confuse which is which before proceeding...

Buster has switched to openresolv (interfacing w/ systemd-resolved) instead of resolvconf previously used in Stretch.
I am quite fuzzy about the ramifications of the change but I've already seen a few funny things happen...

Re: Setting up network bridge under Buster

No, no. There is (was) something in your Stretch install that made the script work, but seeing eth0 come back from the dead and being reassigned an IP and routes is typical dhcpcd behavior, and that has not changed between Stretch and Buster. There is the old way of configuring networking under Debi...

Re: Setting up network bridge under Buster

Little should have changed between Stretch and Buster regarding networking. The second part (bridged config) of the official access point documentation shows how to setup a bridge. The configuration in question defines an IP address for the bridge obtained via DHCP by dhcpcd. This should fit your ne...

Re: How to set up a static IP using Raspbian Buster

Have solved the problem. I made the correct edits to /etc/dhcpcd.conf, but then added this line to /etc/network/interfaces: interface eth0 manual A quick reboot and the problem was fixed. Editing /etc/network/interfaces is not needed nor expected in the general case (as here) in Raspbian. It's been...

Re: How to set up a static IP using Raspbian Buster

Good move.
It is better to configure your router to give always the same IP address to a machine, rather than fiddling with manual IP config.
See the configuration pages of the DHCP server in your router.

That's a good name. I do like a bit of entitlement myself.
But why the plural? Isn't it usually the other way around, one person, many accounts?

I think you gather right, AFAIK this add-on was primarily designed for people who stack rows of Pis in 1-U server chassis. The Cloud/cluster crowd.
I stand corrected. My apologies.

Re: Broken desktop boot (and more) due to disabling lightdm

I have no experience w/ the Raspbian Desktop so I won't be of great help.

Do you mean to say that you installed Raspbian Stretch and over time updated to Raspbian Buster? Or are you still running Stretch?
"lsb_release -a" would confirm the answer if you're not sure.

If you do typical desktop tasks, you rarely go over 2GB requirements, hence us thinking that would be best at that RAM point.
I see. A rational approach to the question... Big mistake indeed :D

Re: Using RTC module and synchronizing time from the net together

The systemd stuff uses only one server at a time . No idea how long it sticks with it. As mentioned in the response within the link, if you want to have a local (RTC) and internet clock sources at the same time, you'd need to install ntpd or another NTP server. Internet NTP servers will usually be s...

Hum. In my crystal ball, I see that more or less as an IoT application. I would look at cloud-init (for its meaningful name, mostly...) or possibly at designs enabling OTA updating, like Mender or Balena. Among others. Everybody uses Pi it seems, at least for prototyping. I’d suggest you get 3 units...

That looks better. So that is iperf routed without masquerade, UDP or TCP, right? On a LAN I would prefer to run NFS (all I can in fact) over UDP, but that’s an aside. The drop in performance over TCP can probably be remedied via sysctl, there are many kernel tunables related to TCP buffers, etc. I ...
