Re: Connect multiple raspberries to server with a hosted interface on it

Hum. In my crystal ball, I see that more or less as an IoT application. I would look at cloud-init (for its meaningful name, mostly...) or possibly at designs enabling OTA updating, like Mender or Balena. Among others. Everybody uses Pi it seems, at least for prototyping. I’d suggest you get 3 units...

Re: Pi4/Buster router performance

That looks better. So that is iperf routed without masquerade, UDP or TCP, right? On a LAN I would prefer to run NFS (all I can in fact) over UDP, but that’s an aside. The drop in performance over TCP can probably be remedied via sysctl, there are many kernel tunables related to TCP buffers, etc. I ...

Re: System freezes with flash drive access

If the system has trouble reading or writing data to disk, you should get a trace of that in /var/log/syslog.
A problem with the storage media is a likely cause, testing with an other USB drive could test this hypothesis.

Right. So here it’s not the SD.
You say cpu load is fine. According to “top”, how much cpu does the openvpn process take, approximately?

Re: Can't get watchdog package to mail or log

Mhh. Browsing the web reading Debian man pages and a few other sites, I think now the watchdog daemon only logs to syslog, but “naturally” you can configure syslog to write to a separate file. The log-dir stanza looks like a directory where the stdout/stderr of test- and repair- binaries only can be...

Re: Pi 4B: question on OpenVPN performance or speed [RESULTS]

It might be worth repeating that speedtest essentially tests your ISP network: how well you are connected to it, how well it is connected to the rest of the world. The test, AFAIK, downloads/uploads data from files. In the case of a Pi running off an SD, performance would then normally hover around ...

Re: Pi4/Buster router performance

I don’t have a pi4, sorry (and sad). Did you try bridging the interfaces and see how fast (UDP, preferably) transfers go? If you get a result in the 800mbps range then I would try UDP, routed, without masquerading (with static routes to the pi4 router) If you get a result in the 600mbps range then I...

Re: Pi Wi-Fi access point with FTP site running in a self-contained network.

The guide specifies 3 commands:

Code: Select all

sudo systemctl unmask hostapd
sudo systemctl enable hostapd
sudo systemctl start hostapd
The error you report could suggest you missed the "unmask" or perhaps "enable" ones?

So on Buster, the system has no idea where to send stuff to. Oversight or bug? I tend to port working recipes from machine to machine until it breaks, my encounter with msmtp occurred many years ago. If you lookup the list of files provided by packages msmtp or msmtp-mta you can find /usr/sbin/send...

If openhab provides a package for Raspbian it is their job to make sure it works with current updates. Lookup their site and see if there is any particular warning, otherwise you should be good to go.

Re: Access point tutorial missing information about bridging?

I dont think that would be relevant, your device requires the use of a router behind it. (Could be the Pi itself, but in routed setup).
The documentation states clearly the bridge is designed to sit within a LAN, in other words, behind a router.

Re: Set "wait for network before reboot" and then switched off wifi

I don't have the answer to that.

But if you have init=/bin/sh in cmdline.txt and the system does not start a shell, the SD (the system installed on it) is useless.
Consider reinstalling following well documented or "official" procedures, you will probably save much time.

Re: Set "wait for network before reboot" and then switched off wifi

I removed the ip address from the cmdline.txt What in the world made you add an ip address parameter in cmdline.txt? Kernel-level IP configuration is something used in diskless, network booting thin clients. The rest of the time, it competes with "regular" IP configuration and confuses routing in t...

Re: Fedora 29 update broke hostapd on RPi 3B+ ....suggestions?

Well, perhaps it's just terminology, but somewhere routing is happening here using just those three interfaces - because otherwise multiple users could not connect simultaneously to it as an access point and still access the Internet independently. As they can... So perhaps the routing and NATing i...
