Re: Trouble with headless Kodi under jessie

Hi, This sounds like a known issue with RealVNC when starting Kodi from the desktop (see https://github.com/RealVNC/raspi-preview/issues/2). However, keyboard input will work if Kodi is started directly from the console. To do this, you can either set your machine to boot to console and reboot, or r...

Re: Connecting to my pi 3 with realvnc

My guess would be that you are creating a VNC Virtual mode desktop by running the "vncserver" command. While this does work, you may notice some programs don't run particularly well on this desktop, especially things like Chromium, when it is also running on the "console" desktop, which you can see ...

Re: Start VNC Server on Bootup

What address are you entering in the vnc viewer? To connect to the service mode server (enabled from raspi-config), you just use the ip address or hostname of the pi. To connect to a virtual mode server (started with the vncserver command) you use the ip address or hostname with :1 (the display numb...

Re: Introducing PIXEL desktop: new Raspbian release

My licensed RealVNC config deleted, I may be able to help you with the RealVNC issue. The new "VNC Connect" version which was made available on 16th Feb this year removed the need for the bundled license key which was included in previous versions. There was a problem, however, if you had a virtual...

Re: NO_PUBKEY 379CE192D401AB61

The messages you see when updating the realvnc-vnc-server package are normal and nothing to worry about. It's basically trying to determine the fontpath for your X server via various methods, some of which will print things to the console like this.

Re: Ethernet Issues

I setup something similar recently, although it was a Pi zero connected over USB to a Windows 10 machine, bridging to Ethernet.

I found internet connection sharing to be very unreliable. The only way I could get it to work reliably was to use bridging.

Re: Ethernet Issues

Have you bridged the ethernet and wifi adaptors on the Windows laptop?
You can do this by going to Network connections in Control Panel, select both adaptors, right click and choose "Bridge connections".
You'll probably need to reboot the Pi for this to take effect.

Re: Trouble setting up VNC

You should make sure you're running the latest version of RealVNC server - you need version 6 for the cloud connectivity feature. You can do "sudo apt-get update" and "sudo apt-get install realvnc-vnc-server" to get to the latest version. On the server, you go to the licensing option in the menu to ...

Re: VNC disabled after apt-get dist-upgrade

Thanks for reporting this. Yes it looks like this is an issue with the init scripts for the service. If you have installed the 2013-03-02 Raspbian image, enabled VNC then updated the realvnc-vnc-server package, this results in the VNC service being disabled. The good news is that re-enabling from th...

Re: rpi-update broke VNC Connect

There is an issue we're looking into at the moment where the VNC service needs to be re-enabled following a package update.
Could you try enabling the VNC service again (via the Pi configuration app or raspi-config) and see if this solves your problem.

I've got RealVNC server running on my RP successfully as a startup service (as documented at https://www.realvnc.com/docs/raspberry-pi.html). However, I'd like to be able to set 'randr' property (again in the above referenced doc) so that I can switch resolutions. Supposedly it can be defined in a ...

Re: New VNC Server not working

I am not sure if other viewers can be used? You might need to disable encryption? As long as you have the encryption set to the default "Prefer on", it should work. However, you do need to set Authentication to "VNC password", since the default "UNIX password" isn't supported by other VNC viewers. ...

Re: Virtual Desktop with RealVNC

The VNC virtual mode server is basically an X server with an in-memory framebuffer, combined with a VNC server.
It doesn't come with a desktop environment (which is what provides the window manager, panels, background wallpaper, etc), so you would normally need to have one installed.

Re: Virtual Desktop with RealVNC

If you're starting from Jessie lite, then you won't have a desktop environment installed, hence the black screen. To get the full PIXEL desktop, you'd need to install the raspberrypi-ui-mods package. That should, in theory, pull in all the required dependencies you need. Although it may be simpler j...

The realvnc-vnc-server package isn't in the repositories for Wheezy, but you can download the deb file from here: https://www.realvnc.com/download/vnc/raspberrypi/

And install it manually with sudo dpkg --install filename

Re: Minecraft Pi through VNC black screen problem

Hi, assuming you're using the RealVNC software that comes installed by default with Raspbian, you need to go to the vnc options > troubleshooting and enable experimental direct capture mode. That allows you to see Minecraft and other directly rendered content.

If you're using the RealVNC server, then the "experimental direct capture mode" won't work if the GL driver is enabled.
It should work if you disable experimental direct capture, although it's been a while since I've tried this.

We hope to have a fix for this soon, in the meantime I'd recommend installing the default (4.4) kernel.

1. By default, the server starts in daemon mode and you can't connect to the server using an IP if the server is running in daemon mode unless you have gone through the licensing step. By daemon mode, do you mean when you enable it via raspi-config? We actually call this service mode, since it's ru...

Run vncviewer on another machine and connect using the pi's IP address. Once connected, right click the vnc icon in the top right, and choose licensing. ...
