Re: RealVNC on Pixel release

Now; How do I stop it from announcing the vnc server in Finder If you go to the Expert page on the VNC Options dialog, there is a parameter called ServiceDiscoveryEnabled. Set this to False to stop advertising the server via Avahi. and how do I make it work with Apples screen sharing. It can be mad...

Re: Pi Zero IP address confusion

Hi, The Ethernet/USB link to the Pi Zero has an IP address at each end. vncserver is reporting the IP address at the Pi end, and Windows ipconfig is reporting the address at the Windows computer end. You want to use the address reported by the Pi to connect. Using the other address will probably res...

Re: Connecting to RealVNC after editing boot config

Hi, I think you might need to increase the logging level to get to the bottom of this. If you edit the file /root/.vnc/config.d/vncserver-x11 and add (or edit if already present) a Log line like this: Log=*:file:100 If you then restart the VNC server with: sudo systemctl restart vncserver-x11-servic...

Hi Mark,

For Minecraft, you will need to enable experimental direct capture mode, which is on the troubleshooting page of the vnc options dialog.

Re: Connecting to RealVNC after editing boot config

Hi,

That's strange, the key for the vnc server shouldn't change, unless you did something to force this.

It sounds suspiciously like you're connecting to a different machine!

If you log into the Pi over ssh and take a look at /var/log/syslog it might tell you what is going on.

Re: xrdp rasbian jessie with pixel

- RVNC will mirror the local main session of the RPi. RDP creates new independent desktop session(s). Enabling VNC in the config app starts the VNC service mode server, which allows you to connect to the console display. RealVNC can also create virtual desktops, but you have to start them manually ...

Re: RealVNC on Pixel release

Hi,
There's a new version of the realvnc-vnc-server package available which fixes this issue, if you do

Code: Select all

apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
you should get it. You'll also need to re-enable VNC from the Raspberry Pi config app (or raspi-config).

Re: Pixel and RealVNC

Hi, glad you managed to sort out the private key issue. Looks like the file had got corrupted somehow, I've certainly not seen this before. In order to connect from another VNC viewer, you need to set the authentication type to vnc authentication, and set a vnc password, since other viewers don't su...

Re: Pixel and RealVNC

Hello, I still have problems running RealVNC in Pixel. I started with a fresh raspbian from september, did apt-get update and upgrade yesterday and followed a lot advices that where posted in this thread. Still it is not working. In the /var/log/daemon.log there are still the following lines after ...

Re: vnc connection error

I can't see anything unusual in the log you posted which would tell us why the server isn't accepting connections. Another thing to try when the problem happens, is to run "systemctl status vncserver-x11-serviced.service" in a terminal. This should tell us if the server is still actually running, an...

Re: Built in VNC to new version of Jessi

Hi,

Did you follow the upgrade instructions here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/blog/introducing-pixel/

The RealVNC Server doesn't get installed by default when doing the dist-upgrade, so you need to do:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install -y realvnc-vnc-server

Re: VNC server issue after PIXEL dist-upgrade

I think the problems you are seeing with the VNC service are probably not related to the flash update. There was an issue with the init scripts for RealVNC Server in the original release, which was fixed with an update to the realvnc-vnc-server package. It looks like a side-effect of this is that th...

Re: Minecraft from VNC

Hi Gadenn, If you are running the preview version of RealVNC Server, then there are a few things you need to do in your viewer to get the best performance, see this section here: https://github.com/RealVNC/raspi-preview#optimizing-vnc-viewer-for-the-raspberry-pi As I said above, I would recommend in...

For the version included with the Pixel update, you will need to enable experimental direct capture, which can be found on the troubleshooting page of the options dialog. This allows it to capture directly rendered apps such as Minecraft.

Re: Minecraft from VNC

Hi Gadenn, Yes this should work, although Minecraft will only work when run on the console desktop (i.e. not in a virtual desktop), so you need to make sure you have X11 running and the VNC Service mode server running. Are you using the version from https://github.com/RealVNC/raspi-preview - if so, ...

Re: vnc connection error

Hi, Looks like you are using the RealVNC Server. The fact that you're getting connection refused probably indicates that the server is no longer running for some reason. There is an option to enable debug logging, which might show what is happening - to enable this from the desktop, right click the ...

Re: Pixel and RealVNC

I have no display attached to the RPi, but I don't want a virtual desktop? Why is that? It sounds like what I would want. What's it for? Is a virtual desktop an *additional* desktop, ie. there is the overhead to run normal desktop (even though there is nothing plugged in), plus the overhead to run ...

Which config app, and how would I run it w/o VNC or a screen attached to the RPi? Sorry, I meant the Raspberry Pi Configuration app (from the preferences menu on the desktop). If you can't get to the desktop, you can use the command line raspi-config (which you need to run with sudo). Go to Advance...

Re: Pixel and RealVNC

Also I had to attach to the CLI via SSH to restart vncserver each time I rebooted the RPi. Re: RealVNC vs tightvncserver

(Firstly I should say that I work for RealVNC, so my answers may be somewhat biased!) I had noted references to RealVNC previously, but never tried (I was deterred by the need for a Personal license), and never found any reason to change. The Raspberry Pi edition of RealVNC that comes installed on R...

Re: New RealVNC server config

To clarify the above - AFAICT RealVNC uses the "main" display resolution so, on a headless pi, w/o the hdmi_force_hotplug "workaround" it will default to the composite video (ie. sdtv) display size & resolution. The tvservice ** command should confirm this. Trev. ** FWIW examples of its use to "opt...

Re: New RealVNC server config

You need to enable hdmi_force_hotplug, then set hdmi_group and hdmi_mode to the desired mode according to the tables at: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... fig-txt.md.

For example, for 1024x768, use:

Code: Select all

hdmi_force_hotplug=1
hdmi_group=2
hdmi_mode=16

Re: VNC issue

I'm guessing since your Pi is headless, you have it booting to the console, and not starting a desktop on boot. By default, the RealVNC server is only able to remote the display when an X11 desktop is running. You can enable boot to desktop in raspi-config (Boot Options), or simply run "sudo systemc...
