Ditto 2. I've worked with 3 Pi3 boards this week and the small is very very strong.

The only time Ive had an electronics related smell anything like this is when a PCB has been burned.

I have just reverted a project back to to a pi2 , opened the windows, and banished the pi3 to the garage.
