Re: Metal cases and the wisdom of them

photo 2.jpg photo 14.jpg My first prototype metal case. I cut the shape out of an old speaker grille. The fun bit is that the red led shines through the grid and display the Raspberry logo on the wall:) There is a wooden base and I checked that there is no short circuit possible because all the cas...

Re: Order and Shipping update from RS & Allied

Thought I should jump in here Order number 103xxx, ordered June 24th, nothing about shipping yet Is this true? You ordered June 24th with 103xxx and I today July 23th with - hold your breath - 1010170xxx - yes that's true, over a billion... That would mean 1.010.063.000 orders were placed just in t...

Re: Pibow

AFAICT, your point is that cases should be 50p, and yet are being sold for £10. You are basically complaining they are too expensive. And you are complaining to the Foundation, who have nothing to do with the case market at this stage. If you are so confident that they can be designed, made and dis...

Re: Pibow

I did not mention the 'cost of production' i said 'selling price' of 0.5 GBP :) perhaps u have no idea abt what some of those ordinary cases (whose links are mentioned on this thread) can cost, esp. when sold online. The mis-managed distribution is a related story. Even if i separate it on other thr...

TV / Monitor

I do not understand electronics much so can any one explain the following : For RP's video output through HDMI, what difference can we expect between a HDMI TV and a HDMI monitor ? Maximum how much resolution / refresh rate / response time can we expect on such a TV if used with RP? And which HDMI T...

Re: Pibow

Many of those cheap cases which are priced, 10GBP can easily be sold in not more than 0.5 GBP. And then its cost matches with the cost of RP. Not when the case is third the cost of the board. And that is what i meant, If ppl were informed that it is primarily intended for UK schools then it would be...

Re: Pibow

*In any case it looks as if we have different interpretations of the word target. To me, the target market for the Pi is EDUCATIONAL use and developer geeks, with the emphasis on developer geeks at the moment. You seem to be saying that the target is actually the people who will end up buying it. T...

Re: Pibow

First rule of marketing... If it doesn't appeal to you, it's not aimed at you. I don't think this is aimed at the cheapo 3rd world market. I think it's aimed at people who would happily cough up a tenner to put their Pi in an attractive case. Some people might even be pleased it's being sold ...

Re: Pibow

Have you looked at http://elinux.org/RPi_Cases particularly http://elinux.org/RPi_Cases#Printable_Mylar_Sheet_Fold-up_Case ? You can't get much less expensive than an overhead transparency sheet that allows full view of the entire Pi board. You can even print logos, port labels, etc., on the inside...

Re: Pibow

Of course they would come and there must be many of them already available but the entire thing is very unorganized, in fact i felt, VIA's APC is better in this regard as it provides some of the things like charger and sd cards as a package (again except the case) . But at element 14 website i am no...

Pibow

I read abt Pibow on RP home page. Its a very nice case for RP, very attractive and intelligently designed. But i feel where it might lose is its price factor ! RP is made to be among the smallest and cheapest comp, easily available and usable by, literally anyone. In my opinion it will be used mostl...
